Forums - Nintendo - Even though Endless Ocean isn't a typical 'game'...

...does it fascinate you as a gamer by learning about new animals that are in real life? I'm watching TV right now on the History Channel with the show "Monster Quest" about the giant squid, and it reminds me of the giant squid you see in Endless Ocean. The game does have interesting tid-bits about real life animals. I bought the game for learning about marine animals, since my major for college is marine biology education to teach students and people about marine life, but I also want to partake in field research for UNC Wilmington's Marine Biology Institute and maybe for the government on marine biology conservation. It's hard to explain that bit, but meh.

I feel that this game should also be sold at aquariums, and be used in schools to have students learn about marine life. I took a marine biology course in my senior year at the private high school I attended, but I learned about the marine ecosystems, outer space (moon and sun), and later on about animals (finally lol). However, this game makes me want to do more research on marine life and educate younger children (elementary school; I've tried it at the daycare I work at with pre-K children, but they get lost at times lol).

Should Nintendo make video games such as this more educational for people? Sure we have Brain Age and such, put I prefer games that include animals or creatures and the gamer learns interesting facts. Yeah, we have Pokemon, but they aren't real, so... I wish Nintendo made a dinosaur-like game that's like Endless Ocean (would be hard, but it could be very close to Jurassic Park). I also feel that there should be other games that are similar to Endless Ocean's concept of scuba-diving, such as going to nearly every corner of Earth to search in the water. We have seen on the second Endless Ocean game that there may be an arctic area, and the one picture with greenish water with the fish is from the Amazon, or something tropical because I've seen that fish before at an aquarium I've been to.

Any thoughts on games Nintendo should make that are similar to Endless Ocean?

Isn't Africa similar to Endless Ocean?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

In concept, yes.  Aquanauts is a much closer comparison, though that's a remake of a ps1 game.

What about that space exploration game they showed at their Fall Conference? What was it called, again?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
