Forums - Gaming - when do GOTY edition games usually come out?

I'm thinking about buying a new game sometime soon, but I'm wondering when GOTY editions usually come out. I mean, if it comes out in january, I could wait for all the extra goodies, but if its in the middle of the summer then thats a different story, anyways,

does anybody know?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

so like the VERY next day?

could you be a little more specific?

usually middle of summer, but even if it was january how would you know which game would have a GOTY edition?

hell, almost no games have GOTY editions (off the top of my head I can only think of Deus Ex, Morrowind, Oblivion and COD4)

when it got GOTY and when the developer feels like making some extra money..

don't except them soon after the awards

oh, I thought that it was like a "tradition" to make a GOTY edition if you win GOTY

God of War has a Game of the Year edition, but there's nothing added, it just says IGN GAME OF THE YEAR on the back...

I think like June/July of the year after it wins GoTY, for example we can probably expect an MGS4 GoTY edition in June 2009.

Have I just sparked an "MGS4 will be game of the year" "No it won't" discussion?

GOTY editions are a way to boost sales long after interest has died down by appealing to the more generic crowd, people who might not play a lot of FPS, WRPGs, Sports etc. but are willing to pay to try out the "best of the best" of an unfamiliar genre. It's how a number of people I know came across Morrowind (Elder Scrolls series before Oblivion) they were at a game store saw a game they've never heard of with GOTY of the cover and picked it up.

Not really, we can expect the extended MGS like Kojima always does, but it's not a GOTY edition, it's...well...MGS Sub, whatever you wanna call it
