Forums - Microsoft - My 360 Malfunctioned :(

Oh well.  I was hoping it wouldn't come this quickly as I figured there would be a "fix" for the RROD or other related problems by the time mine failed.  I guess I'll be getting a refurb of someone elses problems this go round.  Basically the DVD drive all of a sudden started making a grinding noise that sounded like the DVD disc was horribly out of balance.  It was kind of a "resonating grind".  I put in another DVD and it didn't even recognize it and then failed to eject.  It would come out about a centimeter and then close again.   I timed it carefully and gave it a very gentle pull when it stuck out and managed to get it open.  I didn't dare stick another DVD in.  I just called MS warranty and ordered a "coffin".  He said it would be here by Friday this coming week so we'll see how they are doing.

I'll post when I get back online.  I'm really disappointed as I was really starting to get into my 360.  I have purchased 5 or 6 live arcade titles and literally just finished Halo 1 before it crapped out.  I was about to pick up Halo 2 and start on it in anticipation of Halo 3 coming out soon.  So much for that, I guess...

I hate trolls.

Good thing MS just extended that warranty.

Sorry for your loss...seriously.

At least it's under warranty, you'll just be out of a console for a little bit I guess...it's alright in the long run I'd say...

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Lets hope Project "Falcon" does away with this.

Did you get a store warranty? If you did use that instead of returning it to MS to be 'fixed'.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Another day, another broken 360 story. I would probably actually buy one over a Wii at this point because of the JRPG support, but man can Microsoft screw up their hardware. Falcon consoles will undoubtedly be better, but I don't think MS can fix all of the problems unless they replace the DVD drive as well.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

My advice is to just buy a 360 if you're waiting on them to get better...

Odds are, you'll ACTUALLY be ok. And on the chance that your system breaks after a while, there's that nice 3 year warranty.

I'm thinking of getting a 360 over a PS3, but I'm scared of the RRoD.

@ BenKenobi88 )

as far as I understood it the 3 year warranty is only for RRoD and not for disc-drive problems , but maybe I misheard something there

Yeah, I wouldn't put it past Microsoft to put some fine print in there that protects them from being liable on certain problems. Does anybody have the text on the new warranty?
