Forums - Sony - David Reeves: This Christmas Not That Critical

I'm sorry but at the current rate PS3 will barely hit 10 million sold by the time Christmas '08 begins. Meanwhile Nintendo will be approaching 30 million. I don't see Sony coming back from a lead like that.

Sony needs to pick up their game and they need to do it NOW.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Normally I wouldn't, but considering who posted it...

I think you get the point.

@MontannaHatchet

It's honestly more of a stretch to put a good twist on this kind of announcement than it is to put a bad one. You can argue that a "Nintendo Fanboy" did indeed find the article I suppose, but the article speaks more clearly for itself more than any spin, good or bad, could. I suppose you would alledge the posting of any self-damning announcements by Sony (which are in abundance) are all the work of Sony Critic fanboys. Please don't be so hostile, it just makes a person look petty.

Not the person who posted the information.......oh god what's the point!

And you should know by now that Vgchartz is a hunting ground.

Sure, this Christmas isn't the end all be all for this generation.  But it will be another black eye for Sony and means that they'll be further behind.  (And looking at current trends and future releases, it's already shaping up to be a sellout for the Wii, strong sales for the 360, and the PS3 bringing up the rear in third place.)

I can't wait to see what he says if Christmas '08 comes around and the PS3 still isn't doing well. ;)

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

That is a rather curious perspective on the matter. I appologize if I misunderstood your text but "Hunting ground" or not, the free exchange of ideas and information shouldn't be taken so seriously, nothing said here nor any number of individuals convinced by lies or logic will affect the outcome of this Console War. If it does get ugly, don't let yourself be the one to make the first mistake.

Dude dont even type that. Sony will probally be going on 15 million. Maybe even more. Not just because im a Sony fan but...

1. Christmas this year and all the big games.

2. MGS4 early next year (Worldwide)

3. Killzone early next year

4. FFXIII early next year (Japan maybe US late next year)

5. Many other big titles coming next.

Your post holds no evidence that Nintendo will be going on 30 million by then. Your pretty much basing it off of that it stays sold out til then. Which isnt very likely.

I agree the PS3 may be higher than 10mil by then as well, but in all fairness none of the PS3's big name titles so far have done much for its sales and none of these big name franchise exclusives have sold enough games with their last instalments to give the PS3 what it really needs with their far more expensive sequels. There's not a single person I haven't talked to at a single gamestore (clerk or customer) that isn't convince MGS4 is comming to the 360 as well (whether true or not) and if FFXII only sold 5 million on a console with an console instal base of 100 million plus, I don't see FFXIII turning the PS3 around. Gran Turismo is pretty much in the same boat as FFXIII.

Also, 30 million might be a bit high, but its not without evidence especially with developers flocking to Nintendo in droves and more games to keep the causal "non-gamer" market snatching them up.

I agree....it will be going on 15 million is my estimate. Nintendo will have at least 25 million though...this is all at current rates...plus there's Nintendo increasing production...so that's an unknown there.

And seriously MontanaHatchet, Dolla Dolla is hardly a fanboy, given his posting record...I don't know why you call "Nintendo fanboy" on him for posting a simple news article...it's not our fault if Sony says stuff like this...give me a news article where Microsoft or Nintendo say something and I'm sure it'll get discussed to death as well...what did you expect?

When Sony's president says, "eh, Christmas this year isn't the most critical"...that could maybe be true...but why is that exactly? He doesn't say. Perhaps next year's Christmas season will be MUCH bigger for the PS3...but I disagree and say that this Christmas is the most critical...all 3 systems are out and in full force, each with a solid line-up of first and third party games for the holidays. Any good or bad press that comes up during this holiday season will very likely stick with them through '08...

meh, I'm tired, someone else can probably explain it better.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I don't think this Christmas is necessarily the most critical one - I think that's going to be Christmas 08.

He never said 07 is not important.
He did not say he does not care about it,
he simply gave his opinion that 08 is the MOST CRUCIAL ONE.

READ what he said before you cry about it.

Way to throw a tantrum over NOTHING.
