Forums - Nintendo - -rant-Why I got rid of Alone in the dark

Many people warned me. "AITD sucks!" But I always prefer to play the game instead because is not the first time people tells me "eew! don't buy X game! better buy this mega macho coolness game instead".

So I bought Alone in the dark along with Okami.

The first time I played AITD, I have this weird scene where I have to press down in the Dpad TOO MANY TIMES to see what was happening. Ok it wasn't that bad. Then it was time to walk...ok very good...then the elevator scene and now is time to get down the hose.

10 deaths later I passed that level and keeped coming. I encountered the annoying fighting couple without the option of shut them the hell up. Passed that part. Time to climb the buidling.

Ok, I am outside, climb more..move to the right..get the balcony..now what? 30 minutes later and getting stuck like 20 times later I found it out.blah blah yadda yadda..found the gun..blah blah..get the parking lot..blah blah..found the car..

Oh dear God..what the hell?! Terrible TERRIBLE CONTROLS! Worst! When it was time to drive the street!!! 1 HOUR LATER I gave up and went to the chapter selection.

Hey I am not good but I am not THAT bad!

Later...

"you must find a first aid kit or you will die! find a bathroom". Okey dokey....BUT WHERE?! 50 minutes, no f****g map  and godsknowshowmany deaths later found it...later then..fighting annoying bats! and driving again! Dx ough!

Oh that's not the worst! Oh no! Got the sewers and after walking in the water, got to the stairs and I CAN'T CLIMB THEM BECAUSE THE ACTION BUTTON NEVER APPEARED!

WTH?! Dx That was the stupidiest bug I 've ever found so far in a game!

I didn't found more..the part where I am in a cabin on fire never found out what to do. That's it! This stupid game is gone!

2 things:

* Yeah the graphx were PS2 like but I didn't mind them

* excepting the driving parts, the motion controllers were pretty good. They could be better but they could been worst. WAY much worst.

This game had anything I really hate about Hardkore games: an absurd difficulty, unclear objectives and being TOO REALISTIC....on the other hand, this game bombed so I guess that even the hardkorez didn't liked it. and who can blame them?

AITD is a terrible awful mediocre game! Is unfinished, buggy, BORING and had a lot of GREAT ideas that could work better in other kind of games. Being killed because you didn't watch out, is one acceptable thing. Being killed because the game demands you to use your mental powers and your sixth sense is another unacceptable thing.

I decided to trade it for another game: Super Mario Galaxy. AND I DON'T REGRET IT. Fun, addictive and most of all, It works. Great game! No is not "mature" and so what?! Mature =/= fun always.

What pisses me off is that many companies like Atari, Ubisoft and capcom will use this game as an excuse to say "see? this games doesn't sell on wii! only nintendo ones". And have they ever wondered why?! Nintendo may not be perfect but at least has more careful with its products. You have to be hard pressed to fin an unbalanced, buggy, absurddly hard game by Nintendo to date. Maybe because Nintendo doesn't treat his costumers like idiots..or maybe because Nintendo, unlike Atari, knows what they are doing and take their job seriously.

So may advice: all those reviews about AITD on the net? THEY ARE REAL. Avoid this game like the plague.

Hold up. I remember you posting in another thread a while back you were enjoying despite it's flaws. Now you're saying it's terrible (it is) based on half the game. How much of it had you played when you posted about enjoying it?

Yeah I know. The first time I played it I didn't cared that much. I thought "meh is not perfect but is OK. people overreacted"...then I got to the driving parts, the charm just vanished. And after that it went down hill.

How much I played? I dunno! so what?! I have to play a game, how much, 30 hours to know if is good or bad?! It took me like 10+ hours getting to the parking lot! and you are telling me that wasn't even the half? More reason to avoid this abomination.

If a game doesn't convince me in an hour or less of gameplay, I pass.

And btw I finished it...went to the chapter selection and played the last chapter. what happened before I dunno and I don't care..the ending was dumb. he became possesed by the devil? duh!

Wait it took you ten hours to get to the parking lot? The same one with the wounded priest and Sarah right? Because that was like probably closer to a fifth of the game. The cabin you mentioned (After the sewer) is probably around half way. By the way, to get out, you just wait, a long time, for the fire to burn a whole. I know, completely idiotic.

I was just asking how long because I consider myself fairly open-minded about most Wii games and was surprised to see someone genuinely like a game I utterly loathed. This explains it; you hadn’t seen the worst the game was yet to offer. (I also played HD version first, which sucked any surprise out of it for me.) I wasn’t criticizing your change of heart, just trying to understand it better.

Funny thing is the Wii version of Alone in the Dark actually gets WORSE after that cabin. There is an infuriating moment, where you’re expected to drive a forklift (which handles like shit) through a dark underground tunnel, with a flaming box being your only light (your flashlight conveniently stops working) while avoiding tons of cracks, which result in instant death if you touch them. The forklift controls actually have a button that resets you at beginning of this area because the hit detection is so horrendous, you’re likely to get permanently stuck multiple times.

After that I had to die about forty times to make a single jump from a rope to a train car. And every time I wanted to attempt this jump, I had to climb up this rope for like a minute to see a bunch of pre-scripted nonsense involving a helicopter sliding off a cliff.

It’s probably one of the worst games I’ve ever actually finished. And trust me, the story makes no more sense if you actually play the whole game. Even if you hadn’t skipped to the end, you still wouldn’t have a clue to what the hell is happening, or at least I didn’t.

The Wii version is a dirty port of the PS2 version. The PS2 version is a dirty cash-in version of the HD version, that only shares the name, some of the same location artwork, and a very loose construction of events. The HD version was a bold game of questionable quality.

Basically a recipe for an utter abysmal disaster. What’s even more painful is actually watching the credits, and see the dozens, and dozens, and dozens of people involved with this version of the game. It’s depressing to think that much work went into actually making it.

Oh my god! really? Dx damn how I would even figured that out?

Wow. Just imagining it makes me shudder XD

Yeah that's what I thought...

You know I skipped them the credits XD I was so tired and sick of the game that I just pressed the home button as soon as it ended it. Yeah that's what I don't get. They had the money and the people why they just can do something right? It doesn't make sense Dx
