Forums - Nintendo - IGN Reviews Wii Music... Ouch.

sadly disappointing with the turn out game material for gamers again. I am still waiting for the rabbit in their hat to appear.

Thats reall low, but it wont surprise me if it sells really well.

you point of view is the majority kid. and it is a very good point of view by the way

Would you honestly buy this game over rock band 2 or guitar hero world tour? The only people who are going to purchase this game are fanboys, like people did with Haze

I'm probably not going to buy this game, but Wii Music attempts to capture the feeling of creative expression through music which is something that Rock Band and Guitar Hero will never be (particularly) successful with.

Anyways ...

Since I haven't heard a well thought out (logical) reason why Wii Music has received so much hatred I started to think about what was so problematic about Wii Music that offends so many people. What I have come up with is that there are no false pretences to get you to engage in something which is not enjoyable on its own, the only reward for playing Wii Music is to play Wii Music.

This is such an unconventional idea, and it begs the question of whether it is a worse idea to have a videogame where there is no reward beyond playing the game (Wii Music) or a videogame that makes you engage in hours of repetitive and un-enjoyable actions in order to reward you with a pointless cut-scene or advancement in the game.

The only people that would be upset that this game will be purchased are fanboys.

Not only that, but this is a completely different beast from Rockband and Guitar Hero seeing as it actually lets you make music. And it's cheaper too and no where near as milked.

Uncoventional? What's the reward for playing Electroplankton? Or the countless other titles in this vein. Hours of repetitive and un-enjoyable actions?!!

PSN - hanafuda

This game will still sell oodles anyway.

There was a thread about that on GT I think or was it IGn hmm not sure but the most didn't like it because they thought Nintendo will spend more time on making games like Wii Fit, Wii music and less time in new (hardcore) games.

IGN is losing credibity with every review they make.... You would think after 2 years they would figure out how to review casual Wii games.

That is okay, they can go back to giving 10s to games like GTA4.

I guess you must have missed the good scores they gave to WiiSports, WiiFit, WiiPlay, Boom Blox, Endless Ocean, WarioWare, Rvaing Rabbids, Lego everything, Mario and Sonic, Big Brain Academy etc etc. Is it that hard to grasp the possibility that this might just be a bad game?

Matt's played the game. None of you have. Yet you all think you know better than him.

That's because Matt is a douche and I'm not. My opinion is better by default.

Do you mean this thread?

I remember your thread but that was not the thread I thought about =p.

But so have the reviewers for 1Up and Gamespy as well as a writer for the MTV Multiplayer blog ... and they all seen things differently than Matt.

I guess two reasons that Matt is not being treated well herein are his awful video post from the game (which seems to have been designed to show how bad it could sound) and his recent carping about the game, even before he had played it (dating back to the infamous E3 show where they did not announce Kid Icarus).

But this game does challenge reviewers. From Gamespy:

Wii Music is an odd duck. It is far from a traditional videogame, and more akin to a tech demo or social audio experiment. The fact that it is so very basic means it's completely accessible to anyone, but at the same time there's not much here to interest regular and core gamers.  http://wii.gamespy.com/wii/wii-music/921407p1.html

Because of this connudum, it received 3.5 stars (out of 5), despite it saying it basically did just about everything well. So it was not quality (as IGN's Matt claims) that is the problem in this title.
