Forums - Website Topics - What?? Website asking me to run a third-party virus scan spam message...

Yes, I was just sending someone a PM on here and this big QuickTime window pops up on the screen on VGChartz, then minimizes and keeps sending me messages asking me my computer could be infected and then bothers me continuously about running some third-party virus scan spam message. Then another pop-up says that a local girl wants to do a webcam chat, or strip...wtf, I already have a girlfriend (I'd rather not mention her on the website, but she's on my friend list on here)...

And just right now while typing this, those same two spam messages again. I keep clicking out of them but they keep popping up. Is someone attacking the site with ads? I have multiple Internet security programs that help block pop-ups, but why are these pop-ups bypassing my browser's defenses? >_>

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Not happening to me, looks like you got some spyware

What anti-virus program do you have?

Microsoft Live OneCare (yes, I'm using it because it has detected more viruses, spy-ware and the like than my McAfee program has), along with Spybot's TeaTimer.

hmmm, I've had Windows onecare and it didn't seem to be that great, I own BitDefender now and I haven't gotten a single virus or spyware, and it's constantly catching thing's that's trying to get into my computer, in my opinion it's the best Anti-Virus program and I tried a lot of them.

So anyway are you still getting the adds?? Sometimes VG Chartz will get these bad ads but they don't stick around to much, one time when I was at VG Chartz my anti virus program kept blocking some spyware everytime I wen't to VG Chartz but they fix the problem a couple days later. So hopefully it'll just go away for you.

Don't run that virus scan. It could install a virus.

That popup window is malware, and once installed can be quite tricky to remove.  You should probably get a program like Ad-Aware (100% free), it works pretty good for things like that.  The bad news is that if you are experiencing this popup, and noone else on this site is, then that means your computer has spyware on it telling it to open the popup.  Run virus scan, and Spyware scan, should be fine.

Get "Alvira Anitir" its a free antivirus, and it catches much more than AVG since they make you pay for full protection. on cnet it got an 83% which was the highest for a free antivirus, while avg got a 71%

use firefox ! :p
