Forums - Microsoft - Why is the X360 so popular in the USA/NA?

As a European, I can explain :

Sony DF will kill me but I think it is popular everywhere in the world now, thanks to its new approach, pricing and a good library.

Sony has a strong marketing focus in Europe, via soccer event (Push FIFA !!), radio shows, retailers campaign ... etc.

Microsoft never ever did that kind of communication on such high scale has Sony.

This is branding to me.

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

I think it has something to do with the fact that most North American homes are built out of wood so the opportunity to have a brick in there house is an opportunity too good to miss

Damn dude that was funny lol.

I think it mainly has to do with Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty. Now you can say Call of Duty 4 is a multiplatform game and that is true, but the main reason that game sold so many copies was because of Live. On my friends list that had 40+ people at one point EVERYONE had the game and played on Live. My friends in real life bought Call of Duty 4 for Live.  American's love their shooters, and sales wise that is a proven point.

US Wise there are quite a few people that have XBox Live, and people are willing to spend that $50 a year for Live. If that wasn't the case even with the PS3 and Wii's free online play (Wii being a bad example but it's still free) we would see subscriptions drop like rocks. But people are willing to spend the few bucks for Live.

It's just that simple.
