Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Version 2.5 Update details

^ No idea. When I hook up my PS3 to my girlfriends father's TV. Which has the same issue, 480p and 1080i, it checks 720p automatically.

Just putting that out there, even for those who have 720p and want their games in 1080i/p instead of games loading to their 720p default resolution.

In in his case, I guess he could try checking only 1080i and see what happens.

you guys do know that doesn't work right? i mean try it again. there's a huge thread on the official forums that disproves all of your claims. a whole slew of games do not support 1080i no matter what you do to it.

and its updated. read it.

oh and if i uncheck both 480p and 720p and leave only 1080i on, the screen turns black when i try to play a non-1080i supporting game. so check your information before making such bold claims of an 'easy fix'

No, not out yet.

Probably tomorrow, since it is for SOCOM and the HQ Headset, which comes out tomorrow.

lucky u get socom earlier than us.

thats a day 1 purchase for me, socom will be an ace game

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Nobody said it was an "easy fix". I said it may work as I had the same problem with my girlfriends fathers TV. Only supports 480p and 1080i. I played Heavenly Sword there the day I purchased it and it ran it in 1080i although the games box said it supported up to 720p.

Take a chill pill buddy.

Not sure if it is just this game, if it was an older update, I don't know. What I can tell you is that many of my games did not work this way and most got the same black screen you are having. I just seemed to have luck with HS and UT3.

i'm playing fifa '09 right now in 1080i on my bedroom tv and i played it in 1080p on the tv in my front room earlier today. all the boxes in my display settings are checked, yet on the game box, it says fifa '09 only supports 720p. this is the case with all my other games since i updated to fw 2.43. i'll upload a pic if you want.

its not about what's on the box. if you read the thread i posted there, lots of games have "misprints". that thread is about tried and tested games that definitely do NOT support 1080i no matter what you do to them.

soul calibur 4, for example, only says 720p but it supports 1080i. the LBP beta i tested myself and it doesn't support 1080i. games like top spin 3 say 1080i/p on the box, but do not support it in game

so basically, what it says on the box is not necessarily the truth.

Ok, my apologies.

The reason why I was able to play 720p only games on a 480p/1080i set was because my girlfriends fathers set has a Home Theatre Scaler.

I guess that would explain things huh?

You could look into one of those, it would give you what you are looking for. No idea what your budget line is. It would take the native 720p signal, upscale it to 1080i and display it on your TV.

we'll have to agree to disagree because you can't seem to understand me when i say that all my games played at 1080i/p after i updated to fw2.43. including the lbp beta. i would show you but the lbp has expired and won't let me load up the game.
