I don't think playing music really counts. Most people would measure battery life by how long they can play games.

eh sega said the game gear lasted 4-6, have the manual on hand, but seriously that thing would blow through 6 new alkalines in about 45 minutes, and I am serious about that
anyway on topic, weak, better battery life actually sealed the deal of me picking up a psp guess I'll have to hold out for a another price drop or something

I don't think my game gear ever made it more than an hour and a half on a set of batteries. Sure was fun though lol.

ah, the days before Nickel metal hydride, and lithium ion batteries...
Damn. I was going to get one of the redesigned PSPs. Now I'll wait...

Psh, I know I got at least an hour out of mine.
With the Game Gear I think that they were using the apsolute top of the line batteries in their tests. No Name batteries are probably what you are using if you only get 45 mins out of it.
Anyways, I was considering getting this because my friend is a psp nut and has been hounding me about it, but for my use of portables what the hell is the point. I like games and I like long quality gaming sessions. If the PSP can't offer me any of that then what the heck is the point. I wanna get a DS but my friend will never let me hear the end of it if I get that. My solution so far is to not get either and tell him that I don't want to spend the money.
sorry if this is off topic i just wanted to see if the embed code worked here as well.
Final Fantasy 7
Vagrant Story
Persona 2
You at least could have found an on topic video and why did you post 3 completely off topic videos?
I think there is a bit of a mixup here.
Right, the original battery in the original PSP gives gamers on average 5 hours play. The new PSP has a smaller battery, but due to lower power consumption in the new model. The smaller battery performs exactly the same as the existing PSP battery.
But one thing that will give room for improvement in the new PSP, is the extra 32Mb of Flash RAM. Once developers get used to the new memory, then theoretically, the games will load faster and the UMD drive will be used less over the course of the game thus reducing the drain on the battery.
Anyway, I easily get 6+ hours playing games on my PSP at the moment using the original battery. One thing that should be noted though, is by placing the system on standby uses a reasonable amount of energy to maintain. I.e. your battery could be full, you play 1 hour worth of gaming and put it on standby and don't play the game for 2 weeks...when you go back, the battery will have been drained.
I travel 45 minutes to and from work each day and I can easily play my PSP 3 times daily for 3 days with an extra 30-40 minutes during my lunch hour without the need for a recharge. So in practice, I can get easily get between 4.5 and 6 hours with the PSP on standby between playing times.
