Forums - Sony - Saint's Row 2 appreciation thread for PS3 owners

Given Saint's Row was an Xbox 360 exclusive, it occured to me that PS3 owners would not be aware of the sheer awesomeness of this series.

For those looking at the title thinking it is a GTAIV clone, please be aware that whilst the premise is based off the original GTA's, it is very different to GTAIV.  Whereas GTAIV took an unfortunately realistic turn in that series gameplay, Saint's Row and Saint's Row 2 have a different aim: Fun.

Based off the first title, and early reviews of the second, it has succeeded brilliantly.  From playing the original, I can tell you the series has the same basic structure as a GTAIV game.  Missions that make up the story, and activities that you need to complete to gain access to missions.  Once again, based of reviews it looks as though it will be hard to resist rushing through the missions, as the story looks impressive for a sandbox game.  Furthermore, the "stronghold's," unique to Saints Row, are story missions that essentially entail an all out assault on enemy gang's bases.

And the best news?  The ENTIRE game can be played through on online co-op, not to mention various multiplayer modes.

A very informative review can be found here.  Trust me PS3 owners, you owe it to yourselves to check this title out.

Perhaps you did not properly understand.  Whilst there will be some very immersive titles this holiday season, with the possible exception of Fable 2, BK3 and LBP, this will be the most fun title on the HD systems.

Pretty much.  It is the next-gen version of what we all wanted GTAIV to be.

Something GTAIV failed miserably to be.  The great news is it is out a full week before Fable 2/LBP, so we can all play it in the lead-up to those two game's greatness.

I won't be putting this into my PS3.

Though it is nice to see an exclusive game leap the other way, to the PS3. lulz.

Why won't you be playing it?  Putting into your Xbox 360 instead?

The first one was originally planned for a PS3 port, but it got canned in favour of working on the second title.

Not there either.

GTA IV turned me off from sandbox games.

Trust me.  Pick up Saint's 1 cheap and check it out.  This series is what GTAIV was meant to be.

I hate sandbox games but the apparent humour I saw from the trailers seems interesting. Worth a rental at least, I will only pick this up at the bargain bin though, there is too many games to purchase and the genre is too much of a turn off for me.
