Forums - Sony - It seems Sony's changing their announcement strategy...

Because everyone had labelled 2008 as the year of the PS3, so now that has to be shifted! (I am joking in case you haven't guessed)

Okay... so sometimes I'm a little dense.

And I guess that thread I just created asking for an answer to why some people feel that a console has to have a "Year of" title to be successful was a waste.  Well, at least the responses might prove to be interesting...

Yea, I was quite surprised Naughty Dog's game hasn't been shown or properly announced yet.

Wasn't Animal Crossing announced at E3 in July? And it's releasing in November. Mario Kart was first announced in August of last year.

Either way, even 5-6 months between announcement and release is a really short period of time.

Aside from announcements, have you noticed an unusual lack of advertising for big titles lately?  Other than the constant Fable 2 pop-ups on this site, I've seen zero TV spots, and the game is due out this month.  Same goes for LBP.  It should be a huge game for Sony, yet the release is about a month away and I've seen nothing on TV.  Gears of War, Halo 3, MGS4... all had lots of air-time.

EDIT: on second thought, this should have been a new thread.  Sorry about that.

In the UK there have been quite a few IU ads, loads of FIFA ads, and PES 2009 ads are starting now (featuring the Xbox)

This changes everything!

I gotta say whether it be exclusive or multi-plat i'm tired of the long wait for games. To the point where I just don't want to hear anymore announcements for a game unless it's like a definite release date and like 4 months away from release.

I also haven't seen any LBP or R2 advertising. In fact I haven't seen much game advertising on free TV in a while.

Sony would never advertise a game 2 weeks before it comes out. I think even 1 week is a bit much for them. They will start a few days before the release, and it keep it going for a few weeks. I think they like the idea of people seeing a game on a commercial, then being able to go out and buy it.

Hope they announce Uncharted 2.

Was this true for MGS4?  It seemed like the commercials were out longer...

They should go back to the way they marketed games last gen.  I remember seeing a commercial for the original Killzone about 2 weeks before it came out.  I had never heard of the game up until that point, but I bought it.  The game had style, and Sony marketed that style, resulting in a game that was widely slammed by reviewers selling over two million.
