Sorry, I have played Yakuza and it does not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the mighty Shenmue

Both Shenmue 1 & 2 are masterpieces and the 1st Yakuza was average at best

Maybe Yakuza 3 will be good but it is simply not a LEGENDARY franchise like Shenmue

Shenmue >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Yakuza

 Completely incorrect.

It really sounds like you have had no hands on Yakuza or at best played it for 5 minutes before you said "screw this shit" or some similiar shallow crap before 'getting into it'.

Let me start out by saying Yakuza has atmospheric contents in gallons. As a dude whose been in Tokyo/Japan and experienced in person I got say they got the feeling of Shinjuku right down to the most minor detail (of course some parts remain fictious). The scenary is fucking immersive as something I've NEVER experienced in a game before.

Battle-wise its just too awesome. The first one was pretty simple in its combat system but its definitely gotten a huge make-over through the 3 latest entries. And Yakuza 3 is obviously gonna take it to the next level with seamless battles RIGHT on the streets. Another thing that made Yakuza so satisfying to play are the combos, the techniques and finishing moves you learn through out the game. Just taking a dazed guy, grabbing him by the face and smashing him through the back window of a car hasn't felt so satisfying in years.

Besides all that there are tons of side quests to be done around Shinjuku & Osaka. Looking for hidden/lost locker keys to open up the diposits at the central bus terminal is addicting when you get adwards like powerfull weapons like a 9mm handgun with 4 bullets or charms and other accesories. Or seducing Hostesses getting their numbers, use your money to buy gifts for them, use your charm to win them over. Alot of various NPC will give you awards for your work if you complete their wish/job/assignment. Also alot of hidden locations are spread through the territory, eventually finding all them will grant you access to hidden armory shops for power-up items and underground casino and fighting arena to win special items or earn money. Same goes for mini game arcades, Mah-jong palor, secret hazard games hall and Baseball course, and so much more.

Also another thing is that when you get a weapon it really means 'you get a weapon'. True weapons are EXTREMELY rare to pick up, which means you have to put ALOT of consideration on HOW you want to use those 3 bullets. There are no reloads, no extra ammo, you got 3 BULLETS. THINK before you SHOOT (imagine being surrounded by 20 mobsters, each bullet is a one-hit kill). And they do break. Handguns, stun guns, police sticks, frying pans, nail bats, aluminium baseball bats... etc. all have a limit to usage and you cant go on feeling undefeated for a long time. Its a short moment son, and youre back to using your fists. Picking up a gun has never felt so right.

And man when I mean the boss fights are EPIC... they really ARE EPIC. The character gallery is complete jewel in this one.

The story hasn't only gotten better with the series but Yakuza 3 seems to exceed those previous entries. While the story in the first was entertaining enough, the twists and surprises seem to be getting better by far as the series progresses. The only part of the first Yakuza story line I found iffy was the ending climax. Despite that the story manages to keep you whole heartedly excited and sucked into the world of the 'Dojima dragon' and the Tojo family feud.

Yakuza has nailed the gameplay spot on. With a few improvements such as a higher amount of techniques to extend the experience, a little bit of a RPG touch on it and some more complexity and depth to the leveling system would make a this series a completely masterpiece. With progression you can notuice its improvements: it gets bigger, better and more polished than the predecesors.

Yakuza is a completely underappreciated series, which deserves more attention than it gets and a better translation job. With a bit of effort from SEGA or SONY marketing-wise, this game could become the next key-flagship-franchise for SEGA in the west.

You sir, are just doing a poor job at comparing Shenmue to Yakuza since its NOT suppose to be Shenmue. It is its own new thing.

So please, go back to the trolling cave you once came from.

Hang on a minute, isn't the name of this thread.... YAKUZA 3, THE NEW SHENMUE III?

Whos trolling? If someone says that Yakuza is the new Shenmue i have every right to voice my opinion on it just like everybodyelse, And besides, Just like someone above posted i also gave up towards the end on Yakuza because the game simply lacked the LIFE and SOUL that the mighty shenmue posesses.

And i love how you say I'm trolling yet your Sig says Nintendo and Sony forever, Talk about a hypocrite.................

All i was doing was simply defending the greatest game of all time (Or are you gonna accuse me of just putting Shenmue 1 & 2 in 1st and 2nd place in my games collection on my profile?)

I gave my honest opinion on Yakuza and you can bet your bottom dollar that i'm not the only one who thinks Shenmue>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Yakuza

Get off your high horse man

Not everyone likes Yakuza

It simply gets boring towards the end

Maybe i should question you? Based on your love for Sony and Nintendo, Did you actually play Shenmue?

See how easy it is to accuse someone?

Sorry for using such a title for this thread...  It was my mistake. I only did it because I think it's a major step for Sega.

But I think the game is quite different from shenmue even if remains some resemblances.

In my opinion, you're not a troll.

That's why I didn't quote this from the other guy:

"So please, go back to the trolling cave you once came from."

I just mean this is not the same feeling.

;)

Well, Been a massive Shenmue fan i tried Yakuza, And i understand that some people may like Yakuza more than Shenmue, I mean they are similar games in a way and were both made by Sega (Obvoiusly Shenmue is mainly the work of Master Yu Suzuki)

Your title for this thread is fine

But for rukusa to single out my opinion when i wasn't the only one who said Shenmue>>>>>>> Yakuza just shows he simply wanted a verbal war

I was not trolling on this one i swear on my life....... I just love Shenmue, i mean when we get Gears of war vs Resistance threads then you can tell that 99% of the people who post in a thread like that are trolling

Not on this occasion on my part

I'm simply defending my fave game of all time

Yakuza 3 i'm sure is gonna improve on parts 1 & 2

But in my opinion Shenmue and Shenmue 2 are masterpieces of thier time......................

"I was not trolling on this one i swear on my life......."

Like I said before, I trust you ;)

It was passion, not anger, it's obvious.

Cheers man, Thats all it was, A passion for Shenmue

I just wish Sega would wrap up the Shenmue series and make Shenmue 3 so its loyal fans can have a sense of closure

Theres tonnes of Shenmue tribute and fan sites on the internet (Shenmue Dojo is a very good one) That alone shows that the vast majority of people who played Shenmue really liked it

Besides, Lan Di must pay.............

"

Besides, Lan Di must pay............."

Lan Di = PAth of revenge...

Ryo must not do the same mistake, xiuying is right !  ;)

then you completely misunderstood the content of my arguement. I was here to defend the series.

The trolling part came in because of the "average at best" remark.

Im gonna state it: Yakuza is not suppose to be Shenmue.

Drawing comparisons between the 2 is like drawing comparison between apples and oranges.

I think we're just 2 different people, youre a hardcore Shenmue fanboy Im a hardcore Yakuza fanboy.

Despite having nearly no material to explain why yakuza is not good just because its not in the same vain as Shenmue.

Soooo... what youre saying is that I should also point out that your sig says you dislike sony? hah 'talk about a hypocrite'....

Probably wanted me to pick that out from the start of my first comment in this thread just to make you feel better.

Ryo Hazuki has a good soul Look how helpful he is towards everybody in the Shenmue universe (You know, Helping a dear old lady find an apartment or caring for the orphaned kitten)

You can tell he's a genuinely good chap and a very honourable person

But did you see how he looked at Lan Di when Lan Di was flying away in the helicopter at the end of Shenmue 2?

Lan Di just seems to bring out the beast in Ryo

So because i don't go it to detail with regards to why i don't like Yakuza you instantly assume i'm putting it down without any justification? Look, Yakuza Simply did not catch my imagination like Shenmue did ok, Storyline wise i was simply more enthralled and gripped by shenmues great storyline and cast of characters

The QTE's in shenmue are all very well thought out and a joy to take part in

The shenmue universe to me is simply more exciting

The combat is Yakuza is linear to me and i love the REAL virtua fighter style combat that shenmue posesses

So in conclusion you favour Yakuza and i favour Shenmue, Lets leave it at that huh?...................

Or maybe you would like to do a metacritic score comparison between Shenmue 1 & 2 and Yakuza 1 & 2?
