Come on...
I wasnt expectin this kind a thread from you.

Take my love, take my land..

Sony has sold more consoles this year so far, how are they done for? Sony is decreasing xbox360's lead year after year so far, so thats a pretty far fetched call. If this gen ends with PS3 at 60mil and xbox360 at 65mil, calling Sony done for would be a joke. Unless you mean, Sony is going to finish 3rd place ok, but done for is misleading.

colonelstubbs,

3 years ?

In 2010, PS3 takes the second slot easly !

LOL. Since lauch the PS3 has not got any closer to 360. So it's not decreasing the lead at all. At this moment in time it's increasing from when the PS3 launch happened.

No. Much to early to say that.

Ok even if this is true, which I due think that there is a chance of this happening, so what, 2010 Sony take the lead the next gen starts up around 2011 and MS had the lead for pretty much the entire gen over Sony.  Sony made many mistakes this gen that allowed MS to get were they are today.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

The key for SOny and MS (have to take nintetendo out cause they this gen have been unstoppable) is third party support, MS has ensured that support this generation and will have ensured it for there next console with the showing they are putting in.  This is a big blow for Sony they went from Number one with number 2 70 million behind to hoping in three years they can move in to second.  And three years is too late next gen starts coming out then.

SOny is be no means done for to be honest the PS3 hasnt hit its peak it also is a price cut away from a huge spike in sales.  A price cut and drop to $299.00 and the PS3 will be flying off shelves.  They also have home coming out and a strong line up of games.  Sony made mistakes the first few years but they have learned and are finally on track, it just may be a little late to take second or maybe not but either way MS will have developer support they are pushing lots of software.

I really can't understand why people would assume that at a particular price the PS3 will (suddenly) become dramatically more popular ...

By the time the PS3 has hits any price the majority of potential PS3 customers at this price will have already bought a Wii and/or an XBox 360, or they are not interested in videogames enough to see the value in spending that kind of money on a system. If they have already bought another system they're a tough sell because the system has to justify its cost to the consumer when they already have a modern videogame system, and if they don't value conventional videogames that much you need to demonstrate that your system offers other values which justify the price. On top of all of this, the longer the PS3 doesn't stand out (in terms of sales) the less incentive there is from third party publishers and developers to produce exclusive games that would help it stand out in terms of sales.

With that said, it is likely that Sony will release the PS4 about 1 year after Microsoft replaces the XBox 360 which means that if they keep sales close enough (and cut into the XBox 360's lead) they will probably finish this generation in second place.

Oh the irony, this reminds me of 2007, were people thought sony would discontinue the ps3.
