Surely you jest?

Haha I don’t know but I feel such joy inside, it feels good that Sony is living the days Nintendo used to last gen when everybody was asking the same thing about Nintendo ;_;

PS3 is done for.... if you expect it to boost in 1-2 years, consider that it'll be 5 years old and better (and probably even priced) machines will be out or soon to be out arround then...
PS2 and PSP will keep sony well afloat till next gen.
Their biggest problem is that their market share is not taken only by nintendo, but by MS too...

I... don't really understand your motive behind this. It's sarcasm?
If that's the case, I'll say this much: Sony ending in third is not an impossible scenario. If the 360 beats them out this holiday season, I'd put my bet on Sony finishing last.
@S.T.A.G.E.: The thing is, Nintendo doesn't have any choice in the matter - they're forced to innovate. It makes them an easy company to love (I'm a victim of this), though I suppose when it comes down to it, all companies are just going about their own way in making money.
@fayewong: That excuse doesn't work. People need to accept reality, and not make rules convenient to them just so their preferred console is "winning." What happens if the PS3 wasn't sold at a loss? What happens if Nintendo didn't sell their consoles at a profitable price point? What happens if Sony/Microsoft didn't pay for exclusives? etc etc...
i despair for Sony this generation when it comes to their overall strategy, and if what they said at TGS is all they have to say... then i think they are making some god awful mistakes in Japan.
But, as a western gamer, i'm getting what i want out of the machine, with some excellent games. they won't catch up with the 360, i think that is certain now. but, you know, I don't really care, as long as i get the games and functionality out of it, then great, so be it.
My biggest fear is that the lack in marketshare will eventually lead 3rd parties to go elsewhere (360 exclusive) or totally refocus their strategy to the mainstream (the Wii).
I wonder if the Sony marketing campaign has bitten off more than it can chew and has ended up promising what the PS3 can't deliver...?

Third place this generation isn't exactly a terrible thing, because I don't think the Wii will be like the PS2 and completely destroy the competition. Sure it'll probably Win, but it's not like PS3 or 360 will only hit 30-40 million each this gen.
Also, perhaps losing this generation will pull sony's head out of it's ass and when PS4 rolls around, they'll be the cold-blooded cut-throat business that saw them dominate the previous 2 generations, as opposed to the arrogant and now pansy of a company it is at the moment.

Nintendo was never forced to innovate within the gaming industry. They just do because thats their claim to fame and the way they see gaming as evolving. Microsoft and Sony have the same idea of creating the ultimate media center. Look at Sony...they are a conglomerate, of course they want this and Microsoft wants to beat them at their own game and then monopolize the industry themselves. Sony and Microsoft were the end of Arcades in the United States. The only thing that Microsoft did that was positive was slow down Sony's threat to the PC gaming area. Microsoft has realized though that they are making consoles now and if they plan on making money for the console they better not port games to PC. They are both evils. Nintendo is the only morality left in gaming. I am a PS360 guy and even I can admit this.
not going to happen.

I'm not really entertaining the question. I'm just leaving a generic comment. It's never over until it's over. I learned that from boston and the yankees.
