Forums - Gaming - Is Sony done for?

no of course not. second place is theirs. I love how easily this site gives up on PS3. When it was outselling 360 on a regular basis everyone said, oh PS3 is gonna pass 360.

Now that 360 had a price drop and for 3 or 4 weeks its outsold PS3, everyones saying PS3 is dead. Well no its not.

360's surge in japan is gone. Its now about equal with PS3 and next week PS3 will win Japan again.

Others has always been good to PS3 so i'd expect the surge to slow down in a couple weeks.

And in America 360 will win until PS3 has a price drop of its own.

Oh the irony, this reminds me of 2007, were people thought sony would discontinue the ps3.

Exactly,  Was it last year that we got NPD numbers where X360 sold 5 times more than PS3?...Everyone was like it is over for PS3!   After some months the PS3 was selling more than X360 and it was very quite....Now MS manage to sell more X360's than PS3's....And bam...Sony is done for again..

Sony was lucky as it was that MGS4 was coming out and they had the recent price cut. Before MGS4 they were feeling the wrath of Microsoft. The hot titles will decide which console is more popular. The price of  the PS3 really isn't helping though, with the Wii still being $250 and the 360's pricing going from $200-to $399 and as an added bonus you can get the elite for the same price as a PS3. At the end of the day it's a battle for the holiday season pitting PS3's games vs Xbox 360's games (And the greatest incentive for holiday shoppers on the 360's side is the platitnum hits and the fleet of games that came out from January 2008 to September 2008):

Gears of War 2 (AAA)

Fable 2 (AAA)

Halo Wars (AAA)

Banjo Kazooie

Naruto:The broken bond

Scene it: Box Office Smash (Hot family title)

Lips (Hot family & friends title)

You're in the movies (Hot family title)

Vs

Resistance 2 (AAA)

Socom: Confrontation

Little Big Planet (AAA)

Motorstorm

Singstar Vol.2 (Hot family & Friends title)

Valkyria Chronicles

You forgot Left 4 dead for the 360

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

@Onimusha12

Your comments about Sony's IPs are ridiculous, last time I checked just about every critic is excited by games like LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2. BTW, how would you know about a decline in the quality of Sony's 1st/2nd party titles? You don't own a single game developed by them. I, unlike yourself, actually have many of Sony's 1st/2nd party titles and there is no issue with the quality of what they currently have out. The only issue is that many of Sony's flagship franchises and major development teams haven't had any releases on the PS3 yet.

PS, your comment about Chains of Olympus (the highest rated PSP game ever) having a "luke warm" reception made me laugh heartily, thank you.

hahha i didn't see onimusha's original post, but last i checked 91 is better than a lukewarm reception!! haha this guys a joke

Oh yeah Onimusha, when you said...

"Then how come the only people we see getting excited about these new 1st and 2nd party Ips are people who already own PS3s?"

You think I'm a fool? That was a loaded question. There is the general rule. Wii users are attracted to Nintendo's 1st/2nd party games. 360 users are attracted to Microsoft's 1st/2nd party games. PS3 users are attracted to SONY's 1st/2nd party games. I don't know what you see, but I personally know "other" console gamers and non-console gamers to be impressed by SONY's 1st/2nd part games. I for one am impressed with offering from all console makers. Maybe that's because I keep my company with gamers or those who don't have such petty squabbles over "console wars."

So the sales of this holiday season conclude this generation?

Of course not. This holiday season if Microsoft increases the gap Sony might have a problem catching up the rest of this generation. Thats what I am saying. Microsoft has made it difficult for Sony so that it comes down to really about 1st and 2nd party games and console cost, rather than 3rd party exclusives helping Sony.

Exactly. This is proof of the diversity of the 360's lineup. This whole year they've had a robust and diverse group of great games. They are going to end the year with a bang. Sony is going to have the best year they've ever had for the PS3, but it might not be enough.

The listing of vs. games is so subjective it's astounding. It seems the SONY hate hobby takes priority over the hobby of gaming.

EDIT: Thank you, Axumblade for shedding a little truth.

It's sad that for many people, the console wars and brand loyalty matter more than the actual games.
