Forums - Nintendo - Prediction: Wii will hit 17-18 million consoles sold by year's end

Check the edit, too. I found out even more. It sounds like the current Wii shortage could be completely intentional.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Around the Network

I'm going with 17 Million by the end of the year, I expect a big December boost. The Stock pile theory seems to hold weight from what I've seen.

PS3 is alittle tricky, but I would say between 6 or even 7 million if there is a perm $500 SKU on the US market and a Euro price cut.

X360 - I expect 13 or 14 million, with around 1.5 - 2 million sold in December, assuming there is going to be a price cut.

Great read, Thanks for the interesting info.

Wow.

Desroko and I are cool now.

You want a piece of US?

Seriously, though, I just got some new information...

Nintendo COULD be stockpiling, as I just learned from a GS employee that Wii shipments will show up at the EXACT same time as key game releases.

So I take it back: they could very well make the 18 mil number, since they apparently ARE stockpiling for games like MP3, SMG and SSBB (probably a lot for the last one).

...

I guarantee that either they are stockpiling, or have their production rigged to produce more over Xmas (probably both).

You should see a minimum of 3m sold worldwide over Nov/Dec - and maybe as high as 5-6m. Remember that Ninty have been in this industry for a long, long time - and have this process downpat to (almost) perfection.

Based on their financial/unit projections projections, I still think 17-18m by the end of the year. Its basically at 10m now, another 7m in 5 months doesn't seem that hard (with Xmas included).

With the boost in revenue and profits, Nintendo have higher their prediction from 14 to 18 million for fiscal year ending on march. It's clear they have been very conservative about their numbers like always and they will surely breaks that bar, so yes 17 millions can be possible, I doubt they will achieve that, but they can.
