Reggie: We've shown a 'plethora' of hardcore games

Points to SSBB, Mario Kart and... Wii Fit?

NoA boss Reggie Fils-Aime has said that hardcore Nintendo fans are "truly insatiable" and that despite showing what it considers to be a "plethora" of games to satisfy core gamers it "doesn't seem like it's enough".

Nintendo has come in for some flak in recent years from core fans who feel left behind by its focus on the casual market. Nintendo's press conference at E3 in July was widely panned for its lack of core titles and a hilarious Wii Music presentation.

However, Fils-Aime told VentureBeat that Nintendo had shown enough games for core fans to satisfy them.

He said: "The gaming enthusiast that buys a tremendous amount of games is truly insatiable. As an example, in March, we launched Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In April, we launched Mario Kart. In later April, we launched Wii Fit. Then, in July, at E3, they say, 'where are the games?' They say they want the next Mario game. 'Super Mario Galaxy' isn't even a year old yet. We believe today that we have shown a plethora of games and genres that can satisfy the most casual to the most core. Even that doesn't seem like it's enough."

It does sound bad when the question is changed.

VB: Do you think your upcoming hardcore games will answer complaints people had a few months ago at E3 about Nintendo ignoring hardcore gamers?

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

He's talking about Nintendo the game developer, and not Nintendo the hardware game library. So games like Conduit don't really apply to this. At the same time, this also doesn't include the "hardcore" or ... "softcore?" choices of other third party developers.

And as a developer they just announced Punch Out!, Sin & Punishment 2 and a whole whack of Japanese style games which look quite "hardcore". And they've released tons of gamer games, Warioland being the most recent.
Considering that they're also inventing entirely new gaming categories as well, I think Nintendo is doing a great job.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

@Stof: It's even more out of context than that. He's talking about gamer reaction to e3 compared to the situation now.

i still think games like conduit should be counted even though they maynot be published by ninty.

its on the console after all so it still counts as a core wii release

Read the whole article - it's well worth it

Oh I agree. I think the Wii has more than enough XXX pron, er, Hardcore games than I (or most?) could ever have time to play to completion and enjoy multiplayer completely.

I was commenting on the odd wording and selective quoting.

Yeah, this is kind of a non issue.

People didn't like what they announced at E3, so they announced a lot more at the conference.

He's just saying that people are always going to want more games... and they are... so... yeah... Nothing to see here people.

lol, 3 games? 2 of which being about as far from 'hardcore' (I hate using that word) as can possibly be. That's fine considering it just covers Nintendo releases. But when Nintendo were the only ones to release ANYHTING worth playing in that timeframe (apart from No More Heroes), then he must be able to understand why people were unsatisfied.

Other than that, I agree that Nintendo itself has done all it can to please their fans as far as games go. Stop being greedy little whiners!

I am astounded he included Wii Fit into the hardcore games department.
