I don't think they said the Conduit will need it or that you will have to have it. They said they've had access to it and were planning to use it for the Conduit 2.

Yes, you will be able to play it.

they did say the Sequel might actually require it

In the interview it said Wii M+ is optional. So yes you can still play the conduit without it.

I look for it to be optional on most titles, but you can bet some titles will flat out require it the same way many N64 titles required the RAM pack.
