Forums - Gaming - Why are games so expensive?

I bought Streets of rage 3 Brand new in 1994 for a r.r.p. of £39.99

My last purchase full price was tiger woods 09 also costing r.r.p. £39.99

Considering everythingelse has gone up immensly during the last 14 years i would say us gamers are getting a bargain

Changing from cartridge to CD obviously helped reduce shipping costs and production costs ect but aside from that we really do have it good us gamers

This may have been the case for a long time, but there's not denying that $120 (plus tax) is a LOT of money to be paying for two games. That's why piracy is so big, paying hundreds of dollars for video games is ridiculous, I don't care how good they are.

That's also why I only own two games; I just can't afford anymore. Sure I can get a job, which I will, but games are just gonna get more extravagant and more expensive.

There's nothing we can do about it but it's still a pain in the ass.

# of games above 75 on Metacritic (including downloadable):

360: 241     DS: 144

PS3: 152     PSP: 126

Wii: 85

they make money and pay for devs and hardware out of software so when costs to make the games go up costs to us go up. side note still cheaper then alot of snes carts, i cant remember and new n64 crats i bout so cant judge there

Why not just get a PS2 and have a huge selection of cheap games?

My games are cheap. If games cost to much, buy used. I don't support piracy, though that is another solution.

That's a different story. I bought a Wii because it was a console that actually tried to revolutionarize the industry and try to be different (see quote in sig). That's just my gaming preference. But I would've bought a PS2 back in the day, too, if I could. But I think it's a little too late now because a console that isn't gonna have any new games being made for it loses its charm a little.

I owned an N64 and bought something like thirty games for it over the years.

The HD consoles are not that expensive for me.

I only buy second hand used games. Wait a month after the launch of a game and you can buy a second hand used game for half price.

If you still want current gen, why not wait a few months after release and pick up the game half price anyway.
