Forums - Sales - Capcom "Cautiously Optimistic" re: MM9 Sales; Pre-Emptively Debunks All Figures

Nintendo Everything reports Capcom's Christian Svensson, VP of Business Development, says earlier reports of Mega Man 9 doing 140,000 US downloads in one week for the Wii are incorrect. "Any numbers you've seen or quoted are not correct," Svensson said. "That said, I think we're cautiously optimistic about MM9's performance."

For the record, VGChartz seems to be the source of the 140,000 figure, which it says would make Mega Man 9 No. 3 for lifetime sales and revenue on WiiWare. Sounds like good enough news to me, considering it doesn't include any PS3 or 360 sales, but it ain't true, says Capcom.

I find it hard to believe VGChartz was wrong. Capcom should be proud of those sales...unless it is overtracked?

I'm confused.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I of course believe Capcom when they say the sales VGC reported are incorrect, but I still believe MM9 trounced every other WiiWare game's first week. And it probably had half the budget, too. Still, Capcom is only "cautiously optimistic"?

Christian Svensson is a moron.

I don't get what the problem is. This announcement was made against what VGChartz said?

It is just another proof for them that VGCHARTZ should stop guesstimating so much.

Reason being is that MM9 probably sold only a fraction of 140k. Maybe 20-30k at best. Vgchartz was called out too many times now to be considered reliable by mainstream

Hey where did you get your figures from DTG? I mean I haven't seen that 20-30k figure anywhere else.

Uhm he is just guessing. It looks like VGC is far off otherwise Capcom wouldn't comment about it.

He said the same thing with Okami and then when one of the gaming sites tracked down Okami first month sales from NPD it was pretty close to what we had. If he's going to say we're off he should at least provide a ballpark figure "its under 100k" or something.

Meh, I think he's wrong.

140k sounds about right.
