Personally for me a big sequel is God of War 3 (I bought the first two PS2 games for my PS3, in addition I will buy the new Ape Escape game being developed right now, as you can see in my games list I bought Ape Escape 2 and 3 for my PS3 as well).

The Ape Escape and God of War series serve totally different kinds of PS2/PS3 users.

To name a few others except for those mentioned in this thread already, Twisted Metal, Jak & Daxter, WipeOut 3, SOCOM, Shadow of the Colossus spiritual successor, etc.

For the long run probably another Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest game (exclusive or not, but superior version if not). Likely GTA V will be console exclusive for the PS3 (if no new Nintendo or Microsoft consoles have been released at that point).

360 will have already won the "next gen war" over Sony and be second place behind the Wii. Nothing is going to beat the Wii, and even if the system isn't "next gen" in the graphics department it is still a next generation system

These graphs do prove one thing.

This Christmas is a key battle for both the PS3 and 360.

The 360 lost the 1.5M lead, above the 5.5M advantage, in a span of roughly half a year. Microsoft definitely knows how deadly this is. The worldwide price cut is a good response.

On the other hand, Sony is having absolutely no luck in US. Hopefully the upcoming titles pave the way enough for a solid comeback.

As gamers, it should be pretty interesting to see how things will turn out.

Yea christmas will be big, but 5.5 million is the same advantage that 360 had when the ps3 launched.  It would mean something that the gap was shrinking, but it isn't shrinking anymore.  Even when the sales drop to constant levels it won't be as low as the ps3 is right now.  This may be the last huge christmas for the 360, but if it can hold its ground it will at least hold the lead long enough that it won't matter much when the ps3 passes it because it will be in late 2010 or early 2011.

 

Interesting the gap from this quarter is almost gone. That means the PS3/Xbox 360 will go into Q4 sales precisely equal with the Xbox 360 carrying greater momentum going into the crucial season. I think with the short price cut in the U.K it might have chance to snatch that last 55k and take the quarter by a hair. *Though the week after is needed to see if there are any adjustments etc with NPD.

BTW: By the time GTA V comes out on PS3 wont it be a little too late for the console sales? I mean we'll be about 1 year from the next next-gen console.

So basically in two years we are back at the same spot we were at in november 06. The ps3 has failed to close in the 360 and the 360 has been uncapable to widen the gap.

In related news, MikeB has recently seen damage controlling the news, spreading the usual marketing memes straight off Sony's marketing department: "untapped cell power" "hope for the future" "the right thing to buy now, to enjoy tomorrow".

Meanwhile, Rockstar has denied MikeB's claims that GTA V is probably going to be a ps3 exclusive: "are you crazy? you think we are gonna chop our revenue in half?"
