Forums - Sony - Have pirates given up on hacking and uploading for the PS3?

you hack whats profitable, rightnow the ps3 is the least profitable for pirates, the wii is the most (on home consoles)
much like, why write a virus for the mac when the pc is far more lucrative

The least profitable? Do you really think the kids uploading games make a profit? Also, chip manufacturers may make a profit, but it's highly doubtfull they make more on the Wii right now then the 360. With all the casual gamers on the Wii, the piracy levels are way lower in my opinion. A quick check on number of downloads on a Wii/360 confirmed my thought btw.

Comparing it to apple/windows is completely pointless. The market shares of all three consoles are signifcantly closer to eachother then those two are.

Blu ray is also a non argument as discussed before. It's also worth it to note that games downloaded from the PS store have not been hacked aswell.

If the PS3 ever reaches mass market acceptance then I can gaurantee you it will be hacked overnight. As of now its simply not worth it to aggresively pursue a hack. It's not a question of will the PS3 be hacked its a question of when and if you think otherwise your just fooling yourself.

Excuse me? The 360 got hacked almost on day one when no one had it and it hardly had any market at all. Same for the Wii. Thinking piracy has anything to do with the size of the market is foolish. Soft mod hackers simply want to prove they can outsmart big companies with their hacks and hard mods like chips do it for the cash.

The PS3 has sold over 15 million untill now, and saying it is not mass accepted is just foolish.

The 360 was hacked on day one because people wanted to run Linux on it.

The PS3 is capable of running Linux on it now, so no need for further hacking.  If you couldn't run Linux on it, people would be hacking it more.

It's not just pirating that drives hacking, but also homebrew.

Maybe in NA & EU there isn't much in the way of profit, but in many Asian countries shops openly sell pirated software, it's big business. Anyway, from what I see in shops it goes: PS2 >>>>>>>>360>>>>>>Wii. I would say Wii is the least profitable, probably due to it's demographic. Having a lot of it's biggest titles come with peripherals doesn't help piracy either.
