Forums - Sony - I expect a PS3 price drop announcement by Sony on TGS

How about waiting a couple of weeks to see if the 360 price cut worked or not. No reason to predict the death of ps3 yet.

Problem is that now each week is very important starting from October... also the XBOX is tracting more momentum and i think this week and last week result are enough to convince Sony that they need to go all out on this holiday season... Theoratically its the third X-mas for PS3.. and they won't have many more... they have a good line up, PSN is also quite mature now... system has been well updated with firmwares.. HOME is also launching before the end of the yr... so everything is set in place and the only thing they need now is a price cut... and i m sure that even a $50 price cut will do wonders for PS3's sale...

I believe that increase XBOX sales are eating into the PS3 sales.. and Sony need to realise this..

A $100 cut in USA wouldn't be feasible, but a $50 one and a 70€ one in Europe (where thanks to strong euro most probably Sony has already stopped losing money for quite a time) would almost certainly be. And maybe they could also release starter kits with 2-3 games bundled for $40 more in USA end 30€ more in EU.
While I think that we'll have quite an assortment of bundles for Xmas, I wouldn't bet on price cuts unless Sony is really forced, though.
Not that the thing touches me other than for sake of discussing about gaming market, though, as I think I'll buy a Wii, but only when it will be considerably cheaper and it will have good hack 'n' slash action RPG's where wiimote can be used as a sword, axe, crossbow, etc.

They should do a $50 price cut+bundle a game. That equals to the value of a $300 premium 360... and even exceeds it, IMO.

Does $300 360 come with wireless built in, blu-ray and a lifetime subcription of online play? If not, definately exceeds it.

That's pretty much the reason for it exceeding the 360's value. Plus the fact that PS3 exclusives interest me much more.

I can't help but agree with these 3 posts.

As much as I would like to see SONY lose very little, or even make a good Profit on the HW, it does seem like they need a price cut.

I still think it won't happen. However, I have a huge maybe at $30 discount.

1. Sony has stated repeatedly that the primary focus now is profits.
2. MS's bump due to its price drop has dropped every week WW. This gives support to Sony to just wait it out as it seems 360's sales trend will level back off where it started pre-price reduction.
3. Bundling is going to be big this holiday for Sony with its newest games, especially LBP as they are going to have high hopes for this game. They obviously want it to be their Mario.

Does 350$ PS3 come with headset, hd cables, and a lifetime qore subscription? If not, definitely exceeds it.

Point is? The stuffs you mentioned are pretty useless and optional if you don't need it, just like the stuffs MS includes that I wrote.

Really, I don't understand people that make this argument. It's entirely stupid. You've clearly never taken a marketing class or you would learned that you've got to listen to customers needs and wants and incorporate those into your produce to create value customers want in a product.

Who gives a damn if it comes in with a wireless built-in when wired is just as functional and doesn't require you to fork over the extra dollars even if you don't need wifi. Smart move would have been offering it on the side like MS did and market it to customers that actually value a wifi adapter. Same goes with your argument of blu-ray. Blu-ray is excellant, however, does the average person care about blu-ray? Nope, DVDs still rule the market. How many more would PS3 sell if it didn't have a blu-ray? Millions more. Smart thing = offering bluray as an addon.

The free online gaming is the one thing Sony did do right, that is something customers value. The problem is the console is so damn expensive because of these extra cool feature your trying to say make ps3 more value over the x360, that too many people can't afford the console to even experience the free online gaming.

It won't happen. Sony isn't going to break the bank in order to please fanboys on message boards.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Considering MS was able to afford 2 price cuts in Europe within six months, Sony should be able to afford one there at least since they cut the prices there a year ago. A strong Euro should insure that losses will be minimal.

Having said that though, if they do a price cut in one region they will most likely have to do cuts everywhere or risk a backlash. So it will be a tough decision but hopefully they will make the right one.
