Forums - Sony - I expect a PS3 price drop announcement by Sony on TGS

i think it will be very foolish of Sony to risk the sales of their exclusives like LBP, Socom, R2, M2 cuz of high entry price to their console...

With recent economic turmoil and example of XBOX 360 price drop effect is enough proof that it will booast lot of sales for Sony.. So i m sure they are and should not take such a risk...

That would be awesome but will not happen ,,,maybe a 50$ ,,,,but i m think they might do a $40 price cut

They should do a $50 price cut+bundle a game. That equals to the value of a $300 premium 360... and even exceeds it, IMO.

Does $300 360 come with wireless built in, blu-ray and a lifetime subcription of online play? If not, definately exceeds it.

Hmm, pie.

I reckon they need a price cut in all regions too. People are going to be having a lean Christmas and the PS3's high price will cost it too many sales.

I am largely platform agnostic. I fail to understand why some people get overly fanboyish about what is an inanimate piece of electronics that's obsolete even before it's launched, when there are far more important things to champion, such as preventing environmental destruction or preventing millions of people dying unnecessarily from illnesses. This fact however, doesn’t mean I am not someone who doesn’t enjoy gaming as a pastime (as I have done for the last 20 years) or doesn’t have a strong interest in how the market is evolving – hence my presence on this site.

Platforms owned – PC, DS, X-Box 360, PS3, PSP and Wii.

they wont announce it at tgs. but i expect an announcement before novemeber if 360 sales remain like this. i think it's too early to just react to the price drop because it's only natural for a price cut to raise sales for the first couple fo weeks, but the effect can wear off and i'm guessing that's what sony is waiting to see.

they'll probably see how long the 360 can sustain these sales before making a decision on a price cut. if any.

That's pretty much the reason for it exceeding the 360's value. Plus the fact that PS3 exclusives interest me much more.

I wouldn't still count on it but the 360 seems to be gaining some ground... I'm sure they're at least considering a price drop. They don't even need a big one; they just need to shift the momentum back to them with a small price drop, huge games and lots of hype. Well, maybe not hype but PR instead. They'll want the consumers to believe the PS3 is the best choice.

I believe they can easily afford a price drop of some kind. They've been able to reduce costs and will be able to do it in the future, too. Besides, the more consoles they sell, the more money they'll make on games. They'll just lose money now and gain some later. What they don't want to do is let the 360 get away.

I don't know about the price drop. They've said they have no intensions for a price drop but it seems they might actually need one. Not necessarily but it would help them.
