Hey guys I've been trying to install Windows vista on my computer, but everytime i try to install, it stops on the blue vista graphical background screen, with only the mouse pointer showing. I'v tried both x32 and x64bit, but they both have the same problem. My computer should run vista fine. Specs are

-Core 2 Duo E6420

-3 gig ddr2 ram

-nvidia 8800GT

-Gygabyte EP35-DS3

-320gb hard drive

The only thing i can think it would be is the graphics card, but it says on the manufacturers website that it's vista ready.

Anyone got any ideas?

well, there's no problem with your graphics card being capable of Aero in Vista, so unless it's faulty i don't think it's that.
Try run a memory check in BIOS, you might cave some bad RAM lurking under the hood
Could your install media be corrupt? (scratched disk etc.?)

How many RAM chips are installed on your motherboard? Maybe one of them is the culprit. Most good motherboards has a memory test in the BIOS; try and look to see if yours has that and perform the test. Hopefully (for your sake) only one of the sticks is bad.

I had a similar problem - turned out to be faulty memory sticks after testing various components in my other PC.

Since switched them for some OCZ sticks

hmm ya it sounds like some hardware fault.. I just recently built my own pc and installed vista 64 in under an hour..

you can get memtest for free from here and then burn it to a CD and boot off the CD.
