Forums - Nintendo - DSi is here!

There appears to be two cameras, if you look at the pictures, one on the outside and another inside next to the microphone.

Edit: Oops... ramuji and tigibet already mentioned that fact, sorry about that.

I am personally rather apprehensive about the new DS, sounds good to me, but I am not sure if it'll help DS be anymore successful, or worse...

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

Currently playing: Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Wii), Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS), Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS), WiiFit(Wii)

Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)

I'm hoping you can somehow use the external camera while the whole thing is closed up(with the shoulder buttons or another unseen button) so you can just take pictures and go, without having to open it up at all.

I was wondering about that myself, but probably not. You couldn't see the screen (and therefore the subject you are trying to photgraph) with the lid closed. Also, Nintendo would probably feel that allowing us to take photos with the lid closed would encourage "up-skirt" photos.

Ahh.. foiled again, but about not being able to see what you are taking a picture of, that doesn't bother me all that much, because you get fairly used to doing that(I do that with my own camera every once in awhile, even though it has a very visable, very accesable screen, just to take a quick picture. And now that you mention the 'up-skirt' thing, it almost surprises me that they put cameras on it at all, they are very careful about things that could be.. 'misused' in any fashion. In any case though, even if you can't take pictures with it closed by default, I imagine someone will shortly make a homebrew application to do just that.

Second thought once again, I also wonder if they are going to allow video recording by default(I would think they would, seeing as how they will have the potential for a large amount of memory available(assuming your have an sd card in there). While once again I can easliy do this with the camera I already own, but I'm always for consolidating gadgets, and this could potentially be a replacement for my current camera(even though 3mp is less than that of my camera).

Something else possibly related to the whole "dual touch screen" confusion thing (or not):
The Nintendo website does point out that DSi software will not run on DS hardware, without going into detail about what that means.

Two cameras would be a huge thing. Video conferencing - or even proper VoIP - would be a killer app for the DSi.

Still wonder how much internal memory it will have, and whether they will have different skews for different prices (i.e. iPods).

Its scary just how many possible applications the DSi will have - take a DS, add internal memory, SD support, camera, better WiFi (? any mention?), two touch screens...

No accelerometer? Motion support?

One thing I want to point out, the dot that engaget doesn't seem to know what it is. It appears to be a camera that takes priority when the console is open presumably to be used while gaming. Possibly even while chatting wirelessly with friends? In addition there is photo editing software somewhat like on the Wii, maybe less features.

Day 1 upgrade for me if skype works on it.

Looks great! Impressive.

Sales will skyrocket once again.

Does the camera have video recording support as well as stills?

Looks awesome...wonder when the US release will be.
