Forums - Sales - Fable 2 vs LBP

I find funny everyone says LBP has casual appeal because sony's marketing decided LBP has casual appeal.

This day and age platformers are everything but casual - the only one still racking in the dollars is Mario and that's more to do with Mario itsef rather than the genre.

edit: Have to add that LBP does indeed look good and I hope it does well (and it will) but the hype train you guys are running on is set on a course towards disappointment.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

Can we stop calling people fanboys? It makes it hard to consider your opinion when you immediately insult the other point of view.

I don't know at what point Little Big Planet went from a unique title that may sell a million to this system seller that some seem to think it will be. I think Little Big Planet will sell between 1 - 2 million LTD. It will be a successful title for Sony/MM, but will be constantly brought up as a failure due to these unrealistic expectations.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Since everyone's looking at sales here, and since neither game is out I see it like this...

potentially, LBP could easily outsell Fable 2 but only if it connects with the broad audience its targeted at. A lot of that audience I think has a Wii or a PS2 right now but we'll see.

Fable 2 does not have as large a potential audience but its likely sales are more certain due to its nature as a sequel, install base, etc.

So, Fable 2 is the surer thing but if LBP does realise its potential it could outsell it...

Now I wonder what's really going to happen.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Seriously why do you even bother, you think people take you seriously?

Nobody can tell what LBP will do as its a completly new ip

Fable 2 however ... different story.

LittleBigPlanet I think. It has broader appeal and seems more anticipated/hyped than Fable II.
Still, it depends on how many copies of Fable II starcraft is going to buy :P

Fable 2 sales = Directly dependant on Starcraft's bank balance.

Fable2 = 600k launch
LBP = 400k launch

I believe I read somewhere Fable 2 has 1.8 million prorders now. Cant remember which magazine. Anyhow. 600,000 is very low estimate for a game which sold previously over 3 million.

Fable 2 first week 1.2 million. LT 4-5million.

CoD 4 did 1M 1st week.  Gears did 900K first week.

I could be wrong, but 1.2M seems a bit optimistic.

I too think 1.2 million is optomistic.  But I will point out Gears was on a far smaller userbase and CoD4 was in the wake of Halo 3 and Bioshock.

31On October 22-30 when the results come in, you guys will be all wrong. well all the ones that say Fable 2 will sell more than LBP that is. buhaha.

Littlebigplanet: 800,000
Fable 2: 650,000

Some people may disagree, but i feel to answer this question to some degree depends on review scores. Every one was soo hyped about SW: TFU until the ratings came in. Now people say it's not worth the buy,granted it sold well,but not nearly as well as some thought.

The new Bioshock screenshots from PS3, there was reports of alot of people cancelling preorders because of this.

Bottom line, sales for each game could possibly be crippled if in 2-3 weeks metacritic has 65 or so rating for either....it is possible as we've seen already. Let's wait and see...

It depends on the region. Overall I think LBP will sell more worldwide considering it's a game unlike we've ever seen. Dare I say new Mario?
