Forums - Nintendo - HD Wii in 2011

The only thing I am hearing about a new HD Wii in 2001 is better graphics. Do you really think as smart as ninty is that is all they are working to do. Lets all face it they have more surprizes and secrets for us to come with an HD Wii. Even the PS360 hardcore fans would love to play Zelda/Mario/SSBM in High Definition.

Seems about right. Wii launched Xmas '06 - meaning they would have got almost 6 Xmas's out of the "old" Wii hardware.

All they need to do with the Wii II:
- lots of storage (crystal system, potentially terrabytes of data)
- backwards compat with current controllers (definitely), also potentially reduces the cost of the device
- possible NO disc drive, digital dist only
- HD visuals, roughly on spec with the 360 (to make it easy for companies to port 360 games to the Wii HD)
- full virtualisation (runs GC, N64, Wii, ... games)

They wouldn't necessarily dump the Wii - just phase it out over 2-3 years. Price cuts, entry device, etc.

One interesting thing they *could* do with the Wii HD, is release a "raw" bundle - no controller (unlikely), if it fully supports Wii controllers. This way a $249 / $199 price point is more than possible.

Very very unlikely.

That would mean going away from the Blue Ocean/mass market thingy.

You can't expect most people targeted by the Wii to have that available by that date...

Any new storage system is very unlikely too as the cost would be too high ( it takes a while for new storage system to come down in price..)

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I guarantee that the next Nintendo system will be 100% compatible with every single function of the Wii. It may not be a sequel to the Wii (y'know, may go a different direction than the Wii went), but it will most certainly allow usage of all Wii functions.

Given that you NEED a disc drive to use all Wii functions, it WILL have a disc drive. It may not primarily USE discs, but it'll have a drive. Of that, I'm certain.

I wonder if they will keep the Wii @ $250 the whole time until 2011 and just release a new console @ $250 and discontinue the old one? They have absolutely no incentive at this point to lower the price.

Tease.

I've saying everything this article claims since like March of 2007. I'm sure if I searched I could find my numerous posts.

There is nothing here that isn't easily predictable. The only real question on WiiHD or Wii 2 or whatever is how they will change the Wiimote+nunchuk combination.

I better go play some games, waiting for Nintendo's fall conference results so that all these stupid rumors go to waste and stop, and so that I can add yet another "trustful" figure of the videogame industry as another entry in my list of unstrustful videogame morons.

It's all speculation, the supposed new DS and the launch date of Nintendo's next console. Nintendo keeps a tight lip about their products. No one knew about the DS, Wii remote, or the Wii motion plus until Nintendo decided to make their products known to the mainstream public.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba
