Forums - Sony - 360 Sales are Good How will Sony React?

I'd be surprised if Sony couldn't cover a European price cut if they wanted too - the exchange rate should allow for it. However I doubt they will. They'll wait and see how long this spike lasts, like any sensible company, and only react if they feel they have to.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Nothing, remember they only predicted to ship 10 million PS3s this year, they are on pace for that I think.

Sony will react by declaring the 12 year plan for the PS3

Anyway, PS3 has LBP this month and the 160gb model arriving soon (anyone know the date?) so I don't think they're in too much trouble.

It's one week.

They will do nothing but wait to see sustained effects, as we all should.

Who are you and what have you done with the real DMeisterJ?  I've been reading the posts on the front page for the last couple of days and find myself agreeing with what you have posted.  That isn't normal.

They'll make quality games and release them and won't rely on being the cheapest to sell their consoles.

Although end of this week will be the 360s real test. For it is the release of FIFA09. Then jsut 2 weeks later PES09. If they can't properly outsell a console at least £100 more then we'll see.

Hmm, pie.

They have some good games and bundle coming soon that might boost sales. LBP, Socom, Uncharted 160gb bundle, LBP bundle in Europe, Motostorm 2, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, White Knight Chronicles in Japan, Advent Childern bluray bundle in Japan. If those things don't boost Ps3 sales then they might drop the price.

They have said before though that they don't care about sales, they just want to be profitable. Ps3 is still selling well compared to last year and I'm sure Sony is happy with the progress they made. Managing to sell the most expensive console that much in this past year is good.

i don't see why people are reading that much into ms outselling sony for a few weeks right after pricecuts.
overall ms sold ~65k more consoles than sony worldwide in september. if you compare that to how much sony was outselling xbox teh rest of the year then its not too much.

so xbox selling good is no real point to worry for sony, what they will wtach more is that ps3 sells a bit less this month, the question is how much of this is the effect was caused by september beeing a weak month overall and not having a big new release for some time.

so i guess sony will really watch how the releases in october change things if ps3 is still selling weak after the major releases, then they will get worried, but the current spikes for ms were to be expected with the pricecuts (peaks were even lower than i would have expected them to be, ms didn't even manage to win one week with more than 50k+, but it looks likie this week they have a chance at it)

Really its no like 360 has crushed ps3 sales after all it got a price cut worldwide but on the other hand if it does keep up that ps3 gets outsold by 360 worlwide rest of the year than yes they most do something.

Sony has a lot of work to do...

They made progress this year, but that progress may evaporate by Christmas.

2009 looks good for Sony, but so did 2007 and 2008. People won't wait forever.

2008 was actually very good for Sony. The PS3 outsold the 360 for the majority of the year (around 30 weeks) and the sales were actually pretty good.

2006 and 2007 were pretty abysmal, it seems without knowing it MGS4 saved the console :P

2007 was better than 2006, 08 better than 07, so it follows that 09 will be better than 08. There will be a slight price drop due to advanced technology next year (it's obvious) PLUS GT5, god of war 3, final fantasy versus 13 (and the better version of FF13) Heavy Rain etc. etc. etc.

It is good to see competition in the video game market. The PS2 monopoly of last generation has been broken with Wii and X360 both doing well this generation in competition with PS3. Wii is the PS2 of this generation.

PS3 will have to wait until March 2009 for the next price cut at the earliest. PS3 will have to rely heavily on its brand name and new games launched over the next few months to keep in touch with its main competition the Wii and PS3 is expected to edge out the X360 in sales over the holiday period in Europe.

PS3 and X360 are expected to finish neck a neck over the holiday sales period. PS3 in 2009 with a price cut + more exclusive games is expected to heavily outsell X360 and narrow weekly sales gap on Wii.

Wow, if you just move the years back one, this sounds like a carbon copy prediction from last year.  Every time the PS3 fails to "pass up" the 360, Sony fanboys just move their predictions back 3-6 months.  2008 was supposed to be the year of the PS3.  Now 2009 will be, right?
