looks like game boy's finally kicking the bucket.

we had this discussion a while back--that gameboy could replace those sucky portable electronic game devices at grocery stores.  looks like nintendo isn't about to let game boy to compete with its flagship portable product, the DS lite.

 i don't know how much profits the gameboy line still contributes to nintendo's bottom line, but it's probably negligible by now.  it basically only sells in the US.

 



the Wii is an epidemic.

Wii: 14 million by January  I sold myself short

360: 13 million by January I sold microsoft short, but not as bad as Nintendo.

PS3: 6 million by January. If it approaches 8 mil i'll eat crow  Mnn Crow is yummy.

With these results, I've determined that I suck at long term predictions, and will not long term predict anything ever again. Thus spaketh Crono.

It just says that Nintendo is not developing any more games for it. It doesn't say they are going to stop making it, or stop other companies from making games for it.

They should have just named the DS the Gameboy Evolution for the sake of keeping the brand name alive.

@ Cadence:  I'm sure the next portable will be called the gameboy something. Especially considering that most people call their DS's gameboys.

Why anyone expected another Nintendo hand held when they have the DS out there and it's successful is beyond me.

I don't think there is going to be another Game Boy ever. Nintendo wants the handheld to expand to all ages. So the word "Boy" is out of the question. It had a great run though, it kept nintendo alive in tough times.
