Forums - Sales - Does the PS3 need a price drop to compete this holiday season?

I don't think a price drop before the holiday would be worth it to Sony, at worst they'll be an extra million units behind the 360. If instead they dropped the price $50 that would result in $150 million lost revenue for 3 million units sold over the holidays.

Personally I think we'll see more Sony bundles, a LBP bundle is suppose to come out, I'm sure a multigame pack in also.

It would help

But I think they can still have great numbers without price cut.

And no price cut = less loss

Time to Work !

To compete?, NO.
To beat Microsoft?, maybe

another price cut for ps3 means no profit gain for sony.
maybe will force sony to close its PlayStation department.

ps3 is poor in this week compared to 360 in EU.

but i think the sale is still ok, as long it have 50K and above in EU.

I hope TDK comes out in blu-ray this holiday season. that would sell some ps3s.
A bundle with TDK will be a huge hit. I'd like to see that if there's no price cut.

I want TDK on blu-ray right now!!

This about sums it up. The price point is less of a matter during the holiday season since that's when people are actually willing to spend mroe money. It still matters, mind you, just less than usual.

Though a price cut would be really nice; I'd hate to see the PS3 lose to the 360 this holiday season. Plus, even if they lose $150 mil, keep in mind that the market share means more software supports and thus more software sales. It'll definitely soften the blow.

PSN: chenguo4
Current playing: No More Heroes

I wonder how the price points will effect sales this holiday season, considering the financial meltdown America's in (and will soon be dragging Europe, Japan and many other regions into).

They would do ok without a price cut but they need one to have a really successful christmas compared to the other two.

There will be a pricecut in one form or another.

sure.. a $100 price cut and i might just buy myself a shiny new blu ray player.. oops i meant ps3

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
