Forums - Nintendo - Sonic Chronicles first impressions

I think I'll buy it for the hilariousness and the music. Either way, it sounds pretty ballin.

I beat the game. All phases of the final boss were incredibly easy even though I ran from nearly every battle after being close to halfway through the game. There was no need to use items and I finished off the boss in each phase in either one round or two. The ending was lame and the credits of the game consisted of the Bioware developers patting themselves on the back for making such a great game. No, I am not joking.

What I learned from this game is that regular battles serve no purpose in RPGs other than pissing off the player. Just playing the sidequests and beating the bosses is sufficient to gain enough experience points for the final confrontation. Boss battles are totally easy, but regular enemies can kill one of your characters with two attacks and have lots of different unfair moves you can't do anything against. Things like:

1. Getting revived after each round of battle.
2. Using "dodge" and become impossible to hit.
3. Blocking your attacks while simultaneously hitting you, this move comes out of the blue and is completely random.
4. Having regular attacks that hit two of your characters twice.
5. Having several hundred HPs which get refilled completely if they hit you with a regular attack.

The game becomes more enjoyable and less frustrating when you realize that you don't have to fight any regular battles which brings up the question why these battles are even in the game if they don't have any purpose at all.

There are so many things wrong in the battle system, level up system and money system of this game that it's hard to believe that Bioware is known for quality RPGs. Well, I never liked any of their games, but apparently others love them.

Bioware was probably forced to rush this game out to store shevles.  The game is very easy because the game is aimed at kids

I don't buy this excuse. This game is so broken that even six additional months of development time probably wouldn't be long enough to fix the issues. Also, if the game were aimed at kids, then why would developers add tons of enemies into the game that can kill your characters with two attacks? And since enemies can attack twice per round, it's easily possible to get killed without having a chance to heal.

In an RPG aimed at kids it would take a lot of attacks until one of your characters dies, but that's simply not the case in Sonic Chronicles. Also, the number of battles needed to level up would be rather low to help kids progress through the game easier and with less trouble.

Well?  I don't know what the problem is.  Go ask Bioware why Sonic Chronicles is allegedly broken

You said those difficult battles were optional though, so it is not forced on the kids...

Hmmm... I should try Mass Effect sometime soon
