Forums - Gaming - On Releasing New High-End Console Models....

Well, The elite and 80gb PS3 are really a bit different. All these upgrades did was add more feautures to the system.

DS --> Dslite did not just add features; it changed and reworked the system.

If MS were to make 360s that don't break. Then, you should then will the need to upgrade.

Anybody else thinking that rumbling Sixaxis may not really belong as a topic in this discussion? Sure, I think that would suck to buy the controllers and then find out later that rumbling ones would be introduced. However, with the lawsuit going on, I think that could change that situation a little bit. We all knew that they were kind of dancing around the question and the real problem with the Sixaxis was the lawsuit from not allowing them to have any rumble. I don't know maybe I'm going too far into that since I try to read the news on the consoles when I can and I've been waiting for rumbling controllers to come ever since they announced that they made up with immersion before I bought any new controllers (though I did buy the Pelican PS2 adapter) for my PS3.

I also wouldn't see the 80gig PS3 as making any major changes compared to the 360 when it comes to the Core not having a hard drive and the Elite having HDMI as it's more of a revision and it's not really forcing anything (at least not right now, we'll see after the 60gig stock is gone I guess), just taking the place of the last one in line. I'd guess that once they make even more changes as they implement more things to the hardware (65nm cpu's and such), a new version of the PS3 will come to replace the 80gig after the 80gig has replaced the 60gig.

I think the introduction of newer high-end 360's and PS3's shows more of what MS and SONY think they are capable of in the low end (i.e., not very much). All else aside (Wii-mote, Wii Sports, VC), the Wii is positioned like the Commodore64 was a quarter of a century ago: ready to drop in price far better than the competition. So basically, MS and SONY are clawing at the high end...

Nintendo will be careful about "upgrading" the Wii, because they can only do so much before the "old" Wii becomes obsolete. They can A) Add storage space, B) Make it prettier on the outside, C) Add DVD playing (but who cares right?)

The Wii is already very pretty to look at (like the DS Lite). The problem with the upgraded versions of the 360 and PS3 is, for the $ you spend to upgrade, you don't get that much in return. Why do you even need HDMI ports, if you can only output 720p for games (360)? Component works just fine. Why are you paying $100 for 20 extra gigs, and Motorstorm (PS3)? Atleast when Nintendo releases new versions of the DS, they cost the same as the old DS (if I remember).

I don't see the point of bringing out different versions of the PS3 and Xbox360's either. The Wii is a finished product, the only improvements they should add is firmware wise... they can even release a firmware update that allows you to use one of those usb ports to plug in your own external harddrive. I hope they will some day.

Yeah seriously, they are already making a profit since day 1 of the Wii, not to mention the piles of cash raining down from their DS department. Nintendo probably shoulda started out at $299 though, to avoid this crazy-8-month-long-sold-out type deal. Then they coulda came to $249 this october, after making an extra $500 million for 10 mil consoles sold (50 extra bucks profit). But who knows if they would sold that many? Its hard to tell demand when supply is constrained.

I think these multiple-versions of the same thing, selling at the same time, is just a way to make an extra buck off people's inability to comprehend real value vs perceived value.

I actually appreciate that Wii is not releasing any more models of the Wii, I believe that console gaming is about spending several hundred dollars on a system and not having to do that again for 4-5 years at least. But with all the models of 360's and PS3s it becomes less expensive to simply upgrade one's PC. I hope that multiple models are not going to become a standard because I dont want to go broke buying multiple models of the same dam thing.

Who are you kidding.

No newer PS3 has anything in it to warrant buying it agian, NOTHING at all. Hell the only thing the new PS3 SKU has diffeant is the hard disk, you can walk into best buy get your self any hd throw it into you PS3. Theres absolutly no need to buy a newer verion Ps3 if you have a old one.

Surprisingly same goes for the 360, nothing the elite has would make me want to replace a premium 360 if i had one.

Lets see what Nintendo is doing.

Remote controller
Classic controller
Nunchuck
wii sports pack
Wheel
Zapper
Wii fit

after all that the wii ends up costing + $400

Miyamoto talk about wiiHD a possibility http://kotaku.com/gaming/the-miyamoto-interview-collection/the-miyamoto-interview-collection-part-5-278018.php?autoplay=true

Maybe Nintendo will release a hard disk add on. Why dont you complain about that, something actually legit to bitch about.

Anti Sony/MS make Nintendo look good fud, good post from a mod.
