| Seihyouken said: If we look at last year as an example, PS3 marginally outsold 360 in both November and December despite the 360 having an inarguably better lineup of games and being $120 dollars cheaper due to the rush for blu-ray even though it was still in a bitter battle for supremacy with HD-DVD. This year, with Blu-ray established as the only HD format, I see the PS3 once again beating the 360 despite being significantly more expensive. |
==> about the very last part : PS3 40gb (price drop like) was released very close to Xmas, that may explain why PS3 outsold the xbox360 during the Xmas period ... (even if PS3 also outsold the xbox360 in the beginning of 2008) Also the economic crisis (even if PS3 is quite "economic" for a combined console+ BluRay player) may hurt the PS3. I dont even mention "the wii short supply" that could HELP greatly the xbox360.

Price drops and hardware sales in general are about consistancy. Fluctuations and anomilies week by week must be ignored. That said, christmas will be the real indicator. for this prediction, and I think many people will be pulled in by the lowprice.
I'd say the prediction has a fair chance.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.

I think you overestimate LBP. |
Judging from previews/ beta code demand I really don't think I am. Wording of previews thus far say nothing other than GOTY. As far as potential console moving power, I think LBP is the biggest game this year with nothing even remotely like it existing on any console.
LBP will attract many new customers, and the only thing I can see overwhelming its huge appeal is the $399 price point without the game. If they can drop the PS3 price and advertise enough with LBP (McDonalds would love to give away Sackboy dolls I would think) then this game will move lots of consoles.
Even at $399, I think people can justify it with Dark Knight/ Iron Man on Blu-Ray for their HDTV.

I participate in every beta I can, but that doesn't mean I buy the game (LotR Online and WoW for example). The beta numbers don't give you a clear picture only show you how much general interest there is in your product if it was free. The 360 will most likely take this holiday from Sony with ease... I think that Gears 2 will likely sell more units then LBP and R2 combined by the end of the year and Fable 2 is getting much love (it was game of E3 by several respect and not so respected sites).
360 might take it. it just had a price drop... M$ is in DEEP trouble if it can not take it. They can not lower the price anymore for at least a year. meanwhile sony can and there will be a huge boost for sony when they do.
Either way sony is selling at a much higher price and keeping up and (all year before the price drop) selling more then M$ So sony is not worried. Still for 2008 Sony will be selling more units then M$ and that is something sony is happy about.
no, japan and europe will ruin it even if america 360 sells more.
considering tons of game are comming the ps3 WKC LBP resistance SOCOM.
+ multiplatforms.
The 360 will marginally win NA, but Sony's decisive victories in Europe and Japan will more than make up for Microsoft's slightly higher American numbers. Then again, LBP is a massive unknown. Widespread public acceptance could allow Sony to take NA as well. We'll have to see.

It's all about the game.
