| Kwaad said: I noticed alot of people on this site who play on a ceterin console that starts with a W, and is made by a company that starts with N buy alot of games. Some of them own 10-15. Some own 20-25. Some even own 30+. I just wanna ask why? There arent more than 10 good games out for the console (1). Why buy 20 games (or 1000$) worth of games that arent worth playing almost? I dont know a single person who owns more than 10 PS3 games. Yet, there's numerus people who own 20-30 games for the 'W' console. I am thinking about the attach ratios. The Attach ratio for the 'W' console, is much lower than any other console of it's age (2). Especially when you remove a 'pack-in' demo, and a 10$ game that comes with the controller. The attach ratio is amazingly low. Now back to my point. I knew quite a few people who own 20+ Games for the 'W' Console. and becuase of that, I would think could that possibly 'skew' the attach ratio's? What are the true attach ratios for the console? How does it compare to the other consoles? Why is it where it is? |
1/ Firstly, this is completely subjective. Your definition of a "good game" may be nothing like mine, or the next persons. It simply means that YOU won't buy more than 10 titles.
2/ Well, except the PS3 - right? Otherwise lets see some figures and proof please.
3/ You can't go discounting games like WiiPlay - it still counts sorry. We actually play it, and it IS a game.
...
Two main groups of people buy the Wii - especially near launch.
1/ Nintendo fans (typical of the people on this board that own a Wii): will buy one, and buy lots of games. Because the Wii has a "new" control system, old games become new again - and this results in more games being purchased than normal. Add to this "launch-title-itis" (wanting games to play, so you buy them at launch), buying games for certain genres & smash hits (Rayman, Zelda, etc..) - and you get a lot of games bought by this group.
2/ Wii Sports fans: No question that Wii Sports is a huge drawcard for the Wii, and is the main reason a lot of people are buying the console. Couple this with the fact that the title is bundled (so YOU aren't counting it - right?), and you get a very low attach rate for this group. This group of consumers are NOT gamers - so conventional titles hold no appeal for them. A typical "extra" puchase would be WiiPlay - multiplayer games, extra controller, etc.
As more non-conventional games are launched - such as WiiFit - you'll see this attach rate rise significantly. And when we get the next batch of Wiixxx titles (WiiMotorSports, WiiSports II, Nintendogs, etc..) you'll see it go through the roof.
Its not that different from the DS - which still has a significantly better attach rate than the competition.
