Forums - Sales - Buying Games in Bulk?

Well I only own 7 Wii games myself so I don't know why other people are buying what they are. I do know that when I had the PS2 I never really read anything online and ended up buying a lot of crap just based on the game synopsis or the box art or the description on the back. So I ended up with a lot of crap like Portal Runner and never even stumbled across R&C or MGS.

Well that is kinda my point. The people on here who DO read about the games on the internet, are the ones buying them all. Yes, attach rates are... abysmial in almost every region no-matter how you look at it. I mean the PS3 is doing horrible right now, but the PS3 has about 4 games now, and will have over 15 before 2008 starts. The PS3 is a failure in almost every standpoint when it comes to the consoles launch. Hardware(price) Software(quality/quanity) Press(Horrible). Yet it still can come close to rivaling the Wii Which has done great on all 3 of those. The 360 is just doing amazing in terms of attach rates.

I fly this flag in victory!

I personally own 9 games right now and I really like them:
- Cooking Mama: Cook Off
- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
- Metal Slug Anthology
- Resident Evil 4
- Super Swing Golf
- Sonic and the Secret Rings
- Tony Hawks Downhill Jam
- Wii Sports
- Wii Play

My roommate owns 7 games:
- Super Paper Mario
- Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz
- Rayman: Raving Rabbids
- Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
- Bust A Move: Bash!
- Red Steel
- Excite Truck
- Godfather

So thats 18 games right there. And on top of that we own 7 VC games too.

Its not impossible for a Wii owner to own a lot of games. Their are alot of fun games out there for it, sure there are ports from last gen, but for some people who didn't own a PS2 or Xbox they didn't get a shot and owning them. Thou if you look at what me and my roommate have we don't have that many ports.

I only own 9 games for my Xbox360 and I've had it since launch. And to date their has only been 2 games released for the PS3 that I would even think of buying if I owned the system.

It all really boils down to what you like to play. And I guess Wii owners have a lot that they like to play.

Currently playing:

Ok... I'll chime in... Kwaad... other's have already pointed out that you are in fact wrong about the attach rates for the Wii. The Wii is doing incredibly well for itself, look at the weekly synopsis and you'll see that. The Wii is selling faster then any other console and is beating the PS2's attach rate in the same duration of it's life. So I'm not exactly seeing your point. If you want to know why so many people are buying Wii games in droves... it's simple, some people love games, it doesn't matter what you or I say about a certain game, they will play it and love it. That's life...

The 360 is selling 1/2 as well as the Wii, it has seen 2 Christmas's already and is gearing up for it's third. The Wii and PS3 have only seen 1 Christmas so far, as you obviously know. The 360 is selling a lot of games to it's fanbase (which only slightly grows each month) hence the reason the attach rate seems great. Here's what matters most to anyone with any money devoted to the games industry. How many people can we target with our product and how much does it cost us to produce our product? If the Wii was selling 1/5th as many copies of a game as the PS3 or 360, it'd still be doing as well as the other versions money wise. So individual game sales don't matter as much if your game costs much less to make.

However, this is not an issue now... developers and producers are seeing good sales coupled with cheap dev costs... what more could they ask for?

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Well as long as we’re submitting anecdotal evidence, here’s mine. I own 16 Wii games, 19 if you count the three VC games I bought.

Wii Sports (Duh)
Wii Play (Mostly for the Remote)
Zelda: Twilight Princess (Naturally)
Tony Hawk Downhill Jam (Impulse Buy)
Trauma Center (Love the hell out of it, dying for TC: New Blood now)
Rayman Raving Rabbids (Got a lot of chuckles out of it, looking into it’s squeal)
Red Steel (I know a lot of people hate it, but I thought it was a blast, beat it three times)
WarioWare (Short, but a ton of fun none the less. Multiplayer was good as well)
Elebits: (Lotta fun, and sorta makes you relive the childhood bliss of making a huge mess. Great Boss fights too.)
Sonic and the Secret Rings (Hard as hell and I loved it. Main game was great, minigames were awful though.)
SSX Blur (First SSX Game. Thought it was great, especially the Uber Tricks. Felt it was the first time a dev used motions controller to make a game more challenging instead of easier.)
Excite Truck (Beat it in a rental, but kept getting urges to keep playing anyways. Bought it and has sense become my personal favorite Wii Game.)
Super Paper Mario (Was pretty good, but I felt it lacked the charm of previous Paper Mario's)
The Godfather (Beat it twice actually, probably the only GTA-esqe game I like more is Vice City itself)
Scarface (IGN said it was better than the Godfather. I thought it was boring as hell. Got 20$ off with my Best Buy Reward Zone Membership.)
Resident Evil 4 (Loved the new cursor aiming. Found myself constantly running out pistol ammo since Shotguns felt clumsy and inaccurate compared to head pops and knifing baddies when they were down.)

Only two I’d say I regretted buying would be Downhill Jam and Scarface. Downhill Jam is actually a pretty good game, but I’m so sour on the THPS series after American Wasteland, that I just couldn’t find it in myself to like it. Scarface on the other hand was just downright boring to me, serves me right for trusting IGN though. Other than that I’m happy with all my other purchases.

I’ve rented plenty of games too. Madden 07 was surprisingly fun, didn’t buy since it I figured 08 would be better. I’d say I got 6$ worth of fun from Spider-man 3. Swinging around with the Wu-Remote/Nunchuck was a lot of fun, it was also the only part of the game that was really much fun, but since I only rented it. Same goes for CoD3, MoH, and Marble Mania, all worth the rentals. Didn’t care for Far Cry or Cooking Mama though.

I like your math.

I first typed 17, but remembered I'm just borrowing Mario Party 8, and forgot to change 20 to 19 when I changed 17 to 16.

Its OK. Nothing wrong with inflating your numbers. OR maybe, in this thread, it is....

I currently own 13 games:
Resident Evil 4: Wii
Super Paper Mario
Warioware: Smooth Moves
Rayman: Raving Rabbids
Elebits
Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Excite Truck
Wii Sports
The Legend of Zelda: Twighlight Princes
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Metal Slug Anthology
Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
SSX Blur

I have also owned another 2 games:
Red Steel
Marvel Ultimate Alliance

For VC games, I have 17 games:
The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: Links Adventure
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario World
Mario 64
Actraiser
Sonic the Hedgehog
Punch Out!
Excitebike
Super Castlevanie IV
Super Ghouls N' Ghosts
F-Zero
Golden Axe
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Altered Beasts
Ninja Gaiden

Making a grand total of 15 Wii games and 32 total games. If VC games are counted in that original number I have no problem seeing people saying they have 20 games. For just Wii games, 20 is pushing it, but 8-10 games isn't a bad number.

Wow, Kwaad makes me want to take back some of my copies of Super Paper Mario. I mean, I have a few backup copies just incase one gets scratched. But maybe I shouldn't be buying so much, so I don't mess up the averages.
*SPOILER WARNING: The above was a joke.*
