He does clarify, that he's not arguing does rating equal quality, but, deliberately or not, he's still getting there. Maybe it's just a little bad wording, but it's the picture you can read between the lines. And of course he's entitled to like games by whatever metric he chooses, but i'd still be looking at reasons why he prefers M-rated games, where i'd suggest, that in the type of games he likes, the most quality titles are pushed towards the high age rating. Making a metric for something mature isn't really easy. But if we look at how mature brain works, the game can't be too "flashy", it can't be a "reflex test", it can't be too fast, it has to be somewhat easy to learn and to play in bursts. It also should be somewhat sophisticated. |
If you really read through the first page, you'll notice the OP confirms what he meant so there are no misinterpretations. He likes violent games. He explains that if the same exact game were made less grissly and less bloody, it would interest him less. He explains that he only used the word mature in regards to the M rating, and it didn't necessarily mean the real word mature. He also explains he doesn't want to go into semantics over it, which is precisely what was happening and what you and others continued after his response. He seems to be fully aware of what everyone is explaining to him. He just doesn't care because unlike you and the others responding about what "mature" means, he was never reading that much into it. He just wanted to know why there aren't more M rated games on the Wii.
Making a metric for a mature game would be impossible. You would first need to figure out what makes a mature person, which is a feat and a half in itself, and then you would need to find every common factor and apply each one to games. On top of that, you would have to find reasons why the hundreds of games those same people enjoy, that are considered not mature, are played by them and why they are not qualified. At the same time, you would need to figure out why these same mature games are enjoyed by immature people, and if that in turn disqualifies them as mature games. This brain racking is exactly why it's so pointless to go down this road.
Your owns examples of gaming traits that are mature have no real bearing on mature people, because you can't fit mature people into one set of likes and dislikes.
