Forums - PC - New GPUs soon?

I was thinking of building myself a new desktop by next summer now that far cry 2 is coming out, but I wanna hit the market at just the right time. Anyone know when the next line of GPUs is supposed to be released since when that happens older GPU prices drop a good amount?

ATi's R800 chip is supposed to launch next year, but you can get great cards right now for little money. I got myself a Radeon HD4850 for $180 (including shipping to Mexico), and I'm VERY happy with it.

I'm not in a big big hurry that's why I was wondering, just wanna know a time frame sas to when I should have my dollars ready.

The next generation from both ATI and Nvidia will be in Q2 2009, since that's when TSMC's 40nm process becomes availible and both plan to have 40nm GPUs next. ATI is the current leader at all price points, pretty much, so if you need something before than, a Radeon HD4xxx will almost certainly be the best value.

I am just going to get it on the 360..

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

Closer to $150, I would suggest a good 8800. But if you're willing to spend closer to $200, definitely get one of the Radeon 4800 series...4870s are really, really nice.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

You can get a HD4850 for $170 and a HD4670 that matches the 8800GT/9800GT for $80. Yes, $80.

I wouldn't go that far... 128bit bus, 400 stream processors etc. If the 4850 is ~50% more powerful than the 8800gt then the 4670 cannot be a match for the 8800gt.
