Forums - Sales - Looks like the 360 price cut has had some effect

those are terrible numbers for 360, absolutly awful! as the cheapest console in every territory it should be much higher than that. it just shows that the price never was the problem and the problem was the demand. there is none!

I'm sure you'll be happy with your choice when those nice big exclusive DLCs come the 360s way... as for demand... if the 360 doesn't have any that means the PS3 has less then none... your logic is flawed

No it's because of the price point. If the ps3 was near the same price as the 360 It's sales would skyrocket. This implies demand :p people are just waiting for the price to go down.

The 360 already has a significant lead over the PS3, but somehow stretching that lead is considered bad?

Maybe my logic is flawed. Regardless of how little the 360 outsells the PS3, it is still outselling the PS3 (and reversing the PS3's ability to diminish the 360's lead)

The 360 has been on the market a year longer while fighting bad publicity (hardware defects which appear to have been remedied for the most part), cultural/preference resistance in Japan and Sony brandy loyalty in Europe.

It is simply mind boggling that some posters can still discredit the recent performance of the 360 and consider it justifiable.

Just wow...

I couldn't have said it better, Great Post!

I'm starting to believe this thread would have gotten a lot of flack from those fond of the PS3 no matter what the thread title was, even if I had named it "MS manages to sell some 360s last week."

I even added a followup post stating that I was disappointed with all console sales, in general, but that didn't seem to cool the flames...

the price cut had a positive effect, but nobody can honestly say that the weekly sales gap the 360 currently has over the ps3 will remain that large (or small), the cut effect is wearing off in all regions very slowly every week (looking at sales data will help prove this) and it could be back to square one again pretty soon.

i'd personally prefer it if sony did not react to the price cut, but if sales do hold up in favour of the 360 (which i doubt), then sony may be forced to react and cut their prices as well. which i think is a bad move right now. sales are pretty good for the ps3 with its price compared to the 360. if they could hold out until next year after the christmas storm, or even until a big exclusive is released next year. it would benefit them much more.

A minimal effect, and it will not last long.

Actually, the price cut helped the 360 move more units than ps3 (aggressive price) and now everybody knows that the 360 is at half the price of the ps3 (aggressive marketing). When Fable 2 and Gears 2 hit the market, where will be another demand. When Cristmass come, another demand.
On the Sony camp,it has only Resistance 2. LBP will have to compete with Viva Piniata 2 and Banjo 3,and we know it`s a little hard. Holliday shoppers will chose the 360 over ps3 because of the price and games, even if brand loyalty is important. Why? Because there are other gifts than game consoles, and money are important during Xmass.

The price cut will have a Mass Effect this holliday, why are we arguing over one week? It seems wrong.

because last holiday the 360 had a game line up that the ps3 could even compete with, yet sales were extremely close between them.

this year, they both have games worth getting, and you really can't predict which way it will go. no matter how much rational scenarios you bring to the table. nobody knows what will happen. so saying the price cut will have a mass effect is only saying would should happen, not what will happen.

i can't believe you used viva pinata and banjo 3 as competition to lbp and res2

Viva 2 and Banjo 3 are competing against LBP on the casual front, while Fable 2 and Gears 2 compete with Resistance 2 on the hardcore front.

Then there`s the price - 200 VS 400.

Outnumbered and outgunned, the ps3 will sale, but not as Sony wanted to.

Keep in mind that Jasper will make it until Xmass, and that will be great for everyone.

in terms of competition, lbp will crush banjo 3. and viva pinata 2 has already been released, care to take a look at it's sales?

and why the hell are you quoting 2 360 games against one ps3 game in each 'front'? does that make sense? and why did you fail to mention motorstorm 2? and since when does a new motherboard sway a customer's decision?

like i said, last year the ps3 had no games agasint the 360 with many games, it was still cheaper then, it didn't help the 360. unless you can look into the future, you can't say for sure if the 360 will outsell the ps3 this holiday. especially since the ps3 outsold it last christmas and the 360's price drop is already wearing off right now.

my god, your analysis is no good at all.
