Forums - Sony - Interested in Anecdotal Evidence for PS3 sales following the Price Cut

Well, from what little I have heard around here, this week's sales are doing well, but I would venture to guess that the first couple of week's sales after a price cut will be great, but not critical to a product's strength within its market. What is critical is what level the sales settle to after all of the impulse buyers peter out in 2-3 more weeks.

Secondly, the industry guru, pachter, says that the $499 price for the PS3 will soon count for the 80g model, after the current supply of 60g models is sold out.

The price cut has had little if any effect here in Georgia

I fully understand your desire to know about the effect of the price cut on sales of the PS3, however, I would think it is safe to say that not many of the statements made on this topic on ANY forum website would likely be true. I was in my local Game Crazy yesterday with my buddy who is about to buy a PS3. I asked the clerk if they had sold any more ps3's since the drop. He said "Not a single one...'. He was being serious, and I was like "Riiiiight" spoken like Dr. Evil. Seriously, the friend I was with wasn't going to touch the PS3 at $599 and now he can hardly wait to get his (waiting for a paycheck).

I hit up 4 VG stores yesterday (looking for a copy of Battalion Wars, which I can't seem to find >_

I fixed it for you.  Pachter hasn't made a correct prediction in 3 years, call me when he does.

My EB said that they had sold 2 PS3s since the price cut.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I went to the mall near my job, they have an EB Games there.

I asked about PS3 sales since the price drop. The attendant kinda laughed, and said it hasn't changed a thing, sales were still slow in their store.

He went on to tell me that the 20gb at $500 barely sold, and that when the 80gb arrives at $599, it'll be the same situation.

On a side note, I have a feeling the numbers ioi will have for last week probably won't be representative. If I was a guessing man, I'd say the majority of PS3's sales were online-based because of the deals of free controllers and free blu-ray remotes, and also promoting the 5 free Blu-ray movies. I think online sales aren't exactly easy to keep track of, but I could be wrong.

Well, it's important to note that Circuit City and Amazon both have sales going on on top of the 499 price cut, and on top of the 5 free Blu-Ray deal, so depending where on who you ask, you may get startingly different responses.
