Forums - Sony - HELP! - Wipeout HD

This game is pretty freaking awesome.. howver... i'm finding it really hard!

Anyone who's played previous version of Wipeout have any hints or tricks?  I'm not looking for cheat codes, just tchniques taht help, i'm trying to use tricks i've learned from other racing games but they don't seem to be enough!

I'm stuck on the second level, trying to get 3 more points to open up the 3rd level....

Btw.. i've already hopped myself up on Energy drinks... that helped a little, but it's still not enough.

WipEout is all about track memorization and twitch reflexes.  Once you memorize the tracks and get used to the speed, the game "slows down" for you.  Just keep at it and know that is one of the hardest games out there.

Bethesda's Todd Howard "if install base really mattered, we'd all make board games, because there are a lot of tables."

You cant be serious.

Just keep practicing, you will get better.

If you aren't already, using the air brake buttons is a great way to take difficult turns. If you're having trouble with speed runs then the best thing to do is learn where all of the boost arrows are and hit every single one. On specific maps there are places to best use the boost items so that you can get a jump and then barrel roll to get an extra boost of speed.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Yep, if you have a video of yourself doing a perfect lap at the highest speed-level then I would love to see it.

From the IGN review:

"Make no mistake though - this is not an easy game by any means. The first few grids won't pose too much of a challenge and will let you get through without too much of a fuss, but once you reach about the halfway point through the game, things start getting very tricky. Time Trial and Speed Lap times start getting lower and lower, and you'll have to not only race cleanly but hit every boost marker and find the perfect section to use your own boost (you get one per lap). The competition gets faster and more brutal, making better uses of their weapons and hitting more boost pads.

In short, the game gets tough. You may actually find that you will hit a wall at some point and will be unable to progress unless you're able to take your abilities to the next level (or you get super lucky). The issue here is that the point total that you may need to earn to unlock the next grid is much greater than the number of races in the grid, which means that simply getting bronzes in everything won't be enough (and after a while, even all silvers won't cut the cake). Nabbing golds is pretty easy at the start, but even placing gets really tricky later on, meaning that as the difficulty increases, so do the point requirements for getting to the next level."

I'm so tempted to buy this.

But I can't justify it at the moment. :'(

I find it easy to get a bronze and silver in all challenges. And gold is easy to score when you're driving against opponents. Gold is doable in most events, but insanely hard in the 4 lap events.
