Forums - Gaming - Wheres the big 3rd part support for the wii ?

There's EA and Ubisoft and they are both huge and believe me, there are a lot of unannounced games in the work from A LOT of developers. I was interviewing a few months back along with a good number other friends and most of the studios we talked to had Wii games in the works. I doubt all of them will ever see the light of day, but a good amount of them will be released.

Everything announced from EA and Ubisoft so far has been mini game collections, simple little games, ports or multiplatform games. Doesn't sound like much 3rd party support to me.

Edit: People need to go read the list of game announcements for 360 and PS3 versus the list for Wii and you will see a massive difference in 3rd party support, not in numbers but in quality. I'm not going to count a trivia (Smarty Pants from EA) or jenga (Jenga from Atari) game on the same level as a full fledged multi million dollar project...

The announcements normally reserved for E3 already happened in the preceeding weeks.

Namco announced Soul Calibur Legends, Space Station Tycoon

Sega announced Mario & Sonic, Nights,

Tecmo announced the enhanced Rygar port

Capcom announced Zack & Wiki, RE: UC

Ubisoft announced Rayman 2, My Word Coach, Red Steel 2

EA announced Boogie, My Sims

D3 Publisher announced Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire

Midway announced Crusin

Majesco announced Blast Works: Build, Fuse and Destroy

Atlus announced Trauma Center 2

Konami announced Dewey's Adventure

Those announcements came from late April (when E3 leaks used to happen) to about last Friday.  That is nearly 20 fairly meaty (none are purely mini games except for Rayman and Boogie..) games.  Not a tital wave, but more than just a ripple.

In the comparable period, Sony got Haze, UT, and kept MGS4, while losing exclusive support from Namco (Katamari) and Capcom (Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5).

Microsoft picked up Katamari, Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, and Katamari.

Both Microsoft and Sony picked up Last Remnant from Square-Enix.

Saying no shift has occured is inaccurate in my opinion, even if you think most of the Wii games will end up crap.

There have been big 3rd party announcements all year for the 360 and PS3.

There weren't many new games announced at E3, but everyone was talking about how the Wii was gonna have a turn around with 3rd parties at E3 and nothing of the sort happened.

So when is this big 3rd party support supposed to come? I expect some Japanese support at TGS but I have no idea if they're gonna be any big games.

I don't remember people suggesting specifically lots of 3rd party Wii stuff, though MoH Wii with 32 player online was pretty huge. Personally, I have said time and time again that since 3rd parties didn't anounce shift in focus for the Wii till a couple months ago, you won't see the effects of this shift till 2008. People jump on any opportunity to criticize the Wii though, so the creation of this topic does not surprise me (nor does your reply ckmlb).

As far as TGS goes, it won't necessarily be Wii focussed but it will certainly be Nintendo focussed. DQIX and all those SE projects that are for Nintendo systems will take top stage. The Japanese don't care for the PS3 or 360 much, so I don't expect a whole lot of attention paid to those systems at TGS from 3rd parties. FFXIII may make an appearance, but again it's second stage to DQIX.

Edit: Source shouldn't you have Katamari on there from Namco for Wii games? It was confirmed that the PS3 version was dropped in favor of a Wii version (a nasty little blow and certainly evidence of a shift).

Research the list of 360 and PS3 games announced because you are totally off. Also DMC 4 and RE 5 were known to be multiplatform a long time ago, RE 5 since last year...

The burden of proof lies on your shoulders, ckmlb. He gave a time of reference (between late April and last Friday) and said all the games announced. If he is wrong, prove him wrong.

It is ckmlb big claims and then he ignore the questions or just leave the thread. This can be seen in the "A look at games that Nintendo published since 2002", he started to argument agains RolStoppable and then left when several asked him if had missed the point.

But ckmlb you are more than welcome to prove me wrong about you this time and answer the claim from Dolla Dolla.

 Well said, naznatips.

Simple: Third parties made up their minds before the Wii launched that they would support PS3/360. Analysts did not expect it to sell, no one did. The PS3/360 projects coming out have been in development for a while.

Once the Wii showed that it was here to stay, many third parties have begun to support it. Sure, quite a number of projects are quick cash ins, because they want to make some money this holiday season. They know the Wii is selling, will be selling in the holiday season. They are not going to have big projects ready, so they get out whatever they can. All of the simple/mini-games/ports are coming out this year. I did not hear any company announcing mini-games for 2008. They are putting everything in for the holiday. It is a last-minute strategy.

Alongside these, however, there ARE good games coming. And, in 2008, we will see some of the bigger projects that third parties are cooking up. You could speculate that they are not coming, but I say they are being developed as we speak.

Wow he answered...good work you proved me wrong. (see I can admit that I am wrong, can you?)

Destroy all humans should be on Wii too. (not the same title but anyway)

Please Ck, stop. Dont' say stuff like "do your research" without providing any research of your own at all, especially when he is completely right. Here, look at this list:

Now look at this list:

How many third party exclusives were announced for the Playstation 3 during the last 3 months?

Answer: 2!

Now, how were announced for the Wii?

Anwer: 15!

This week, I saw zero new exclusives for the PS3 this week at E3. I only even saw one new game announced that was on the PS3 at all. So Ck, do your research before you say stuff like that, it's embarrasing.
