Forums - Gaming - still not good to like nintendo! playstation brand still strong!

Hmmm it's actually very psychological you know... people tend to be very loyal when it comes to brands. The first tennis shoes I bought were Nikes, the last tennis shoes I will buy are Nikes hehe. People love to stick with what they learned to love... just like when it comes to girlfriends lol.

And why do your friends argue about tastes of consoles and not over tastes of cars? Well the answer is easy: rivalries! With music, clothes, cars etc. there aren't real rivalries... with the console business, it's all about the rivalry! Hence this is called a console war! It isn't cool to be a fan of let's say Liverpool and love Manchester United right? It's only when a winning team loose too much of it's good reputation that fanboys wil starting to support a more winning team leaving only the hardcore of hardcore behind. Nobody loves to loose. And if Sony doesn't learn from it's past mistakes like Nintendo did in the past... they will loose more and more fanboys.

Me I don't mind the media and about the rivalry that the media loves to hype. The more competition the better the league! Meaning the games will improve because of the big competition. A proud owner of all 3 ^_^

Honestly, when I hear about video games these days in the big bad outside world, Wii has been stealing alot of the spotlight, Playstation brand is still strong but it's losing it fast, alot of the attitudes here (AUS) are quite negative for the PS3, especially considering there are literally 6-7 games to chose from on the shelf and it cost so much, no-one here knows or gives a crap about Blu-ray, PS3's built in Blu-ray player is the only one available that I have ever seen, also ontop of that of course there are about 4 movies to chose from, once again only available in video games stores.

Curious then that after GFk it has been outselling the Wii since it was launched in your country .When there are some more games and movies on the shelves that will be madness !!

it didn't outsell the wii only during the first 2 weeks, and sony did not count from the Wii launch it counted that it had sold more from ps3 launch until 2 weeks ago. wii has surpased it already (there selling easily more). and if you start counting from wii launch sony never sold more, it was just PR BS.

My first mistake was to reveal that I was infact a big nintendo fan (I also own a psp, ps2 and a 360). Immediatly my friends looked at me as if id grown another head. "nintendo makes kiddie games", " i played them when i was 10" and "nintendo games have crap graphics" were just a few of the usual replys thrown in my direction with such venom! At this point I was out numbered 3 to 1 and found it increasingly hard to justify my love of nintendo. Every reason for my love of nintendo was quickly counteracted with with stupid reasons " its got blue ray" (but funily enough none of them ownd hd tvs) "playstation makes the best games" etc etc. I just couldnt believe what i was hearing!

...

What all this tells me is that weither you like it or not the playstation brand is still very strong indeed. Your average joe who doesnt go on to websites such as vgcharts, doesnt know or care that wii is outselling the ps3 by a wide margine worldwide. To these ppl (and there are alot of them) videogames are all about playstation still, yes this perception may be getting weaker, but it is still very much there. I know that this is a deeply flawed arguement and many ppl on this website will jump on and bite me but if the ps3 and wii were the same price then the ps3 would sell more. I dont like it but then thats just my opinion. hell you could put playstation on a toaster and it'll sell. it worked for the ps3 (grill). hehe sorry cheep shot.

Has anybody else experience ppl attitudes to you b4 if you love nintendo? Im also interested if ppl get this attitude from nintendo and microsoft fanboys? ( again i hate that term, but what else do you call them?)

Men are visual creatures. Like it or not. So your friends look at a Mii, Mario or Link and think the system is like those little round wooden people we used to play with as a kid. Thus, I blame Nintendo for the "kiddy" image. If they (Nintendo, not third party) had come out with some games that didn't look cartoony and grew the "image" with people, they might not be considered a kid's toy today by many. Sure, Nintendo may be cute to some, but your average gamer is a guy. Guys usually don't buy cute, unless they are of different upbringing.

I do find it funny though that people instantly claim "stupidity" or "hype".  Take a look at the world.  It's a visual place.  If people didn't care about looks, we wouldn't have Ferrari, Models, Hollywood, etc.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Are you kidding?  Ford ... Chevy ... Mopar?  Ferrari ... Lamborghini?  There's tons of rivalries.  We even have races between car manufacturers to try to prove who makes the best car.

True... but the big difference is the general public don't really care about the rivalry between cars. The general public would die to drive in one of those dreamcars! The love them all, no matter how big the rivalries are... it's a league of it's own. The titles they race for are just for prestige. The general public only remembers who's the best racer, not what's the best brand.

If you think theres no rivalry between Toyota and Gm you are living under a rock.

Mitsu with their Lan Evo and Subaru with their Impreza have been at war with each other for a good decade now, possible the best rivalry in the car business.

I can understand where you’re coming from, and I agree “men are visual creatures” – Jessica Alba is proof of that

But Ferraris, Models, Hollywood etc. are just fake to me - unless you’re a car enthusiast (in which case, I can understand the Ferraris – and you’re ridiculously rich). Otherwise, it generally does boil down to hype, simply because it’s “cool”. It’s exactly the bandwagon, “sheep mentality” you mentioned in the other thread. Visuals are indeed important… but if you genuinely enjoy a game and embarrassed to admit it because the characters are small, round and cute, then you have no self character.

Off course if you don’t enjoy it, then more power to you.

The point I was getting at is that most guys won't even look at the game (because it has those characters) to find out if they like it or not.

FUCK double post sorry ...

Time to Work !

Even if it is not related to race tournement,
u can be sure that, particularly men, possess their preference in terms of manufacturers.
There are fans everywhere for everything.

The fact is that Sony was the first console manufacturer to be considered in the same level than Nike/Addidas a lot better than the usual others electronic makers like PHilips/Thompson/Pionners or console makers like Sega/Nintendo. This just goes beyond the video game market and it is du to an amazing marketing machine : advertissement/special event etc ...

Sony with PS and PS2 has reach a threshold than Nintendo is maybe reaching with his Wii.
And I still consider that the current PS3 sales are massively du to the name "playstation".
Of crouse there also people interesting in BR (like Andir) but they are not the majority of the PS3 owners/potential owners.
