Men are visual creatures. Like it or not. So your friends look at a Mii, Mario or Link and think the system is like those little round wooden people we used to play with as a kid. Thus, I blame Nintendo for the "kiddy" image. If they (Nintendo, not third party) had come out with some games that didn't look cartoony and grew the "image" with people, they might not be considered a kid's toy today by many. Sure, Nintendo may be cute to some, but your average gamer is a guy. Guys usually don't buy cute, unless they are of different upbringing.

I do find it funny though that people instantly claim "stupidity" or "hype". Take a look at the world. It's a visual place. If people didn't care about looks, we wouldn't have Ferrari, Models, Hollywood, etc.

I can understand where you’re coming from, and I agree “men are visual creatures” – Jessica Alba is proof of that

But Ferraris, Models, Hollywood etc. are just fake to me - unless you’re a car enthusiast (in which case, I can understand the Ferraris – and you’re ridiculously rich). Otherwise, it generally does boil down to hype, simply because it’s “cool”. It’s exactly the bandwagon, “sheep mentality” you mentioned in the other thread. Visuals are indeed important… but if you genuinely enjoy a game and embarrassed to admit it because the characters are small, round and cute, then you have no self character.

Off course if you don’t enjoy it, then more power to you.
