Forums - Sales - Does Wii Sports Have a Shot at the All-Time Software Crown?

I wouldn't say so. If Wii Sports remains a bundle for its lifetime, obviously it will. But the fact is: Wii Sports is going to look REALLY out-of-date in a few months, so I reckon the bundled game may change.

The only question at the moment really is if it remains bundled. At current sales trends, we can count on the Wii selling more than those 40.24m only in Europe and America, and this reaches to beat Super Mario Bros. But maybe Nintendo will pack in Wii Fit someday instead of Wii Sports, which I personally hope for, because that would mean Wii Sports would be sold seperately in the west and nobody could come and say "hm it looks like 40m people are playing it, but let's just not count it because I can't buy it anywhere, ok?" anymore.

Okay, but if Wii Fit becomes the pack in instead of Wii Sports, just the name of the problem changes.

Well quite, but since there sure are people that already bought a Wii and want to play Wii Fit, they'll have to sell that one also seperately right from the start, so no one can say "I can't buy it, so it shouldn't be on the top-selling games list".

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

The speculation that WiiFit may be packed in to replace WiiSports is kinda funny. If anything they'd do like they did when they started packing Duck Hunt in with the NES and keep Sports in there.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

As long as Wii sports remains bundled with the Wii then it will almost certainly become the biggest selling game ever. However I do think that a different game will be bundled with the Wii (Wii Sports 2) before this happens.

If Wii Sports is packed in for the life of Wii in US/Europe, I'd say most likely.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I don't think Wii Sports will always be the bundled game, it will be replaced by Wii Sports 2 or some other game of the same type eventually.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Edit: I just discovered that the link i posted is fairly old, and that by combining the sales of Pokemon, Red; Blue, & Yellow that game has sold 20 million. If you list each individually (as should be the case none break 11 million)

Do you buy all version or just 1?

Yeah, I agree with ckmlb, I could see Wii Sports 2 replacing it as the bundled title.

The real question is will any non-bundled Wii title be able to overcome the sales totals for Super Mario 3?
18 Million plus makes it the best selling non-bundled game to date.

SMB3 was bundled with the NES as the "Challenge Set" in the 90s. It was the last version available with the front loader NES w/ a game bundle.

It all depends on the release of Wii Sports 2
