Forums - General - Couric Interviews Palin

There is a difference between tough question about what she believes.

There is nothing wrong with what would yuo do in this situation, and it could be a touchy situation. Asking about specific details from McCain's past is something I don't even think his wife could answer, nor Obama, The only people who would be able to do so are people Lieberman and such who know him well, and have worked along side of him.

I agree with you on the rest. She has some idiot advising her to keep bringing up Russia...

This is awesome - you need to see how a person just one pacemaker away from the presidency.

From the Couric interview - read her responses.

On the ``CBS Evening News'' on Thursday, Katie Couric asked Palin, Sen. John McCain's running mate, what she meant when she cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as foreign affairs experience. Palin could have anticipated the question - the topic of their interview, pegged to her visit to the United Nations, was foreign affairs. Yet Palin's answer was surprisingly wobbly: her words tumbled out fast and choppily, like an outboard motor loosened from the stern.

"That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada,'' she replied.

She mentioned the jokes made at her expense and seemed for a moment at a loss for the word "caricature.''

"It - it's funny that a comment like that was - kind of made to - cari - I don't know, you know? Reporters -''

Couric stepped in. "Mocked?''

Palin looked relieved and even grateful for the help.

"Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah.''

Couric pressed her again to explain the geographic point.

"Well, it certainly does,'' Palin said, "because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of.''

Couric asked the governor if she had ever been involved in negotiations, for example, with her Russian neighbors.

"We have trade missions back and forth,'' Palin said. "We - we do - it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where - where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border.''

Palin, looking at Couric intently, kept on going. "It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to - to our state.''

Here are the quotes with no fluff and all Palin:

"That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.''

For anyone who thinks she's still fit to lead they need an friggin mental exam.

It seems better than: "All my foriegn experience comes form that time I went to Africa as a child"

I'm just saying.

She looks like a deer in headlights the whole time. I can't imagine anybody watching it with a straight face. She's so clueless it's hilarious. How can you see her talk about "Putin rearing his head in American airspace" and not laugh your ass off? What the fuck is she talking about? The whole time? About anything?

We can never question Israel? Ever? If Israel invades Iran and Russia invades Georgia, we'll have to fight 4 wars at once? And she wants troop surges in both Iraq and Afghanistan at the same time? This woman shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the White House, let alone a slot machine.

Well, right now, this person is two bullets away from the Whitehouse:

She was good on some answers, she obviously did not know much about Davis. The last question is a bit unfair, I mean I am sure they have not spent all that much time briefing her on JM's past accomplishments, especially that specific. She was just trying to stress the point that McCain has and Obama hasn't. But I would say this was her weakest interview out of the 3 so far. She seemed kinda stressed especially the first part.

My f-ing god, we're not talking about my 5 year old cousin here. This woman has over 50% chance of becoming the president of the US if McCain gets elected. She can't even give a normal interview. She really is dangerously stupid. Stop defending her because she's on your favorite ticket. You give yourself credit for being a smart guy, which I think you are, so please admit that in all fairness she is an enormous liabilty to the US, and therefore the world.

How on earth can someone that wants to have a serious position in a government say that you have foreign policy experience because you can see Russia from her state?!?! That's ridiculous, and will definitely be a major weakness for the US if McCain happens to die in office.

Well, the difference is anytime Obama is asked about foreign issues he makes a decent answer. He had great answers on O'Rielly Interview. If she had good answers on this interview this would not be an issue. If she had said, you know, thats not what I think is my FP experience, but here is what I think of Russia and what we need to do about it. Or, made a good answer on Isreael like we should support them, but if they make a move thats obviously extreme we need to counsel them to be more careful. Those would be good answers.

Obama in his interview talked about the different sects of the muslim faith and why they were different and needed to be seen as different types of terrorists with different issues. That is a win.

Edit: And Bigjon, its not unfair. The McCain camp knew what was going on at this time and should have briefed everyone with talking points and history on this issue. To not do so is a very bad move. These are questions that anyone from that camp should expect atm.

The chances of two people being killed/dying in the same 4 year span is very low, and if it happens we have a much larger issue than that prolly.
