Forums - Sony - Could this be the end of PSP?

The PSP is in a similar position to consoles like the N64 and Gamecube at a similar point in their life, it will still have a handful of good games released for it until it is replaced (or dies on its own) but its best days are behind it ...

Realistically, it doesn't make sense for any publisher to devote a lot of resources to the PSP being that they can develop several Nintendo DS titles for the same price (or a Wii or PS2 title for the same cost) and see higher sales from those games.

It can still be a good system though. N64 is my favoirte console; GC is my second favorite. PSP is my favoirte handheld (GB is second favorite)

I agree with you, the PSP is great for PS2 games on the go and sometimes are even better then the original game, as is the case with games like The Force Unleashed, Ratchet and Clank Size Matters (yes I know this game went from PSP to PS2), and not to mention the fact that a lot of PSP games that were PS2 have added online when it goes to PSP.

I don't understand why people think the PSP suffers more from piracy than the DS. It's easier to pirate games for the DS IMO.

My daughter has both (I only play consoles), and she rarely purchases or even wants PSP games. She literally has 5-10 DS games for every PSP game, and never pirates either system.

The problem with the PSP vs DS is the cost per game. The DS games are more affordable. Plus the PSP has longer load times. So, to put it simply, for things that matter to most consumers, the DS is better than PSP.

No they're not. Quality DS games sell for about $35 used on Amazon (MORE THAN RETAIL!!! well some, like SM64DS, sells for less, and EBA is dirt cheap. But Wario Ware touched AVDual Strike sell for about $35) while PSP games sell for $10-$25 used on Amazon. PSP has players choice games, DS doesn't. At retial, DS games at $30-$40. PSP games are $20-$40. Now, most DS games cost $30 and most PSP games cost $40, but if you arn't an idiot you can get all your PSP games for $20 or less. I have (well, except for FFT, but I really want it and it wasn't players choice yet, but it was still only $28, $3 shipping included)

eh, I dunno. Rachet and Clank: Size Matters is lousy in my opinion. Force unleashed looked kinda fun, I didn't buy it as it is $40 so  don't know. Its also not the kind of game I like.

Games selection has been my concern for a while now. But mostly I use my psp as an MP3 player, but when I get a bigger memory stick I might buy some downloadable games, and download some videos.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... Strictly talking new, as used is a matter of supply and demand.

My experience has been DS games are $14-$29 for most, and on rare occations they are higher,, but even when they are over $29, it's not hard to wait for a sale, such that you can almost always get any DS game new for $29 or less.

PSP are $19-$39, or higher, and seem to have less sales.

DS doesn't need players choice, as the retail price is oftenn lowered on the DS games.

Random example from Amazon to show PSP games typically cost more just because they are PSP:  Force unleased:  PSP is $39.99 and DS is $34.99.  Typically, it's $10 more for PSP, this is different in that it's only $5 more.  Please show me an example of where a new PSP game costs less than the DS game.

Local stores (at least here) also have a better selection of used DS video games.  Unless something is extremely rare, and extremely wanted, we will not buy used anywhere besides local for used.

Piracy is a BS excuse. The DS has high piracy also but it doesnt stop it from selling.
PSP libray sucks. It doesnt know what it wants to be. PSP has already commited suicide.

A PSP 2 or whatever the hell it'll be called can be a great handheld but the PSP not matter how much you lie to yourself is garbage.

ummmm.... DS piracy isn't nearly as bad as the PSP. Please see this site's SW sales chartz for more details. Also, if that's not enough to convince you, think about how many grandmas and teen girls have the tech savvy and/or inclination to pirate games.....

The PSP failed because of Sony's BS proprietory formats and arrogance. And also because they apparently didn't know what the hell they were doing when they made that little feature on pin 29....

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

Exactly, Blame the devs for not supporting it, SONY did the best any company could possible do to carry the PSP to where it's at today, and for the most part it made Nintendo realize that they will have competition in the handheld market possible forever. 38 million followers is not bad for SONY's first handheld device.

You spew this bullshit in every PSP thread. The system has more then enough great games. It comes down to PSP being very easy to pirate targeting an audience where piracy is largest. DS has massive casual appeal, and the majority of those people wouldn't even know where to begin.
