Forums - Sony - Will Sony Give The Ps3 A 100$ Price Cut In Oct? WW

After the big price drops of the 360 Sony should do something in their pricing.

299 would be the sweet spot ,but somehow I doubt they can manage that.A 50$ price cut would be a good way to move hardware and keep eating at the 360 marketshare and reducing the gap (in weekly sales)with the Wii.

I think they will do something ,unless the 360 sales dont grow at all in the long term after the first 1-2 weeks after the price cut.

If they drop the price I would do it at the same time of the Little Big Planet/Home release in late october.

I doubt we will see a price cut on the PS3 in 2008. I could be wrong but unless Microsoft (already did) or Nintendo drop their prices I don't see Sony dropping there price.

The PS3 at $400 is still a great deal for a Blu-Ray player on steroids that plays games. I'm not bashing the PS3 I own one. I think Sony has lost enough money dropping the price wouldn't be good for their bottom dollar.

$50 maybe, but even that's unlikely.

No, no cut at all. Why introduce a $500 version if you are going to cut.

No I don't think they will. If they do, they will easily dominate the 360 WW this holiday and come reasonably closer to Wii, temporarily.

i doubt there will be a cut, lieing to investor about such things, (the did promise them no price cuts, to get profitiablity) brings the sec down on them, and with the current state of things, i think the secs reaction would be swift and brutal.

to do it they would first have to inform investors of a change in corprate strategy, and give reasons for the shift. so we would hear about it before it happened if its going to happen.

The answer would be a definitive no to any price cut. Ironically I think everyone on this forum would be delighted to see one. First the Sony loyalists would see it as an opportunity for the console to take greater market share. While the Microsoft and Nintendo loyalists can follow the trail to an inevitable conclusion.

I can see it in my minds eye Kaz Hirai coming into an annual corporate meeting with all the heads of the other divisions, and the dark lord himself is at the table Sir Howard Stringer. Finally after a long presentation full of small modest successes he announces the losses on the PS3 have now topped seven billion dollars. With that Stringers eyes turn bright yellow. He reaches out clenching his hand, and strangles Kaz with his mind finally shattering all his vertebrae. Then he says kill the division, and sell off the assets.

All humor aside any more price cutting, and the PS3 will never obtain production cost parity. Which means the console will be a perpetual black hole where money goes in, but never comes out. Sony must eventually stop the blood letting

Sony executives have repeatedly said no price cut.
This can mean one of two things:
1. There will be no price cut.
2. There will be a price cut.
My guess is bundling -- with a price cut early next year to correspond to the change in the manufacturing process.

So a $299 PS3? I dont think it will happen this year, but it will happen eventually. The PS3 doesnt sell enough software and doesnt have a good attach rate to pay off its losses. It loses to the Xbox 360 on almost all third party game sales and routinely come in last for total software sales. The Xbox 360 had great software attachrate when they were in the same position Sony is in now at about 15 million sales. So who knows.

If they are dropping the price early next year it would be retarded not doing the same some 2 months before and having monster sales for the holiday both of software and hardware(and BR movies).I think theres a definite possibility of the price cut happening.
