The importance of JRPG's somehow changed with the bulk of them appearing on the 360. Back in the 4th-6th they would decide the console war in Japan... see PS1 vs N64 in Japan, see how badly the SNES beat the Megadrive, and see how monolithic the PS2 is in Japan, its massive JRPG content still sells it.
But with the 360, things changed. Japan doesn't seem to want a non-Japanese console, no matter how many good JRPG's are on it. IMO - 3... Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, Tales of Vesperia... I'd buy a 360 for these 3. Can't say much about Star Ocean yet. Because the 360 is unpopular, and will never be popular (be a realist, Takashi Sensui), it may seem to you that they lost their importance, as they don't sell as well as before. I can assure you that they would do far better on the PS3, and the boosts the PS3 would recieve from them would be bigger... after all, it's a Japanese console with a huge legacy of JRPG titles...
On a personal note, this generation is turning out rather bad IMO. Ever since playing my first JRPG (FFX - I was 13), I decide the value of a console in part by the number and quality of JRPG's it has. This gen, every console has few/none... unlike past gens. I still have lots from prevous gens that I didn't play... but... knowing that the JRPG genre is shrinking is bad.
Microsoft's buying of JRPGs, and however else they may end up on 360 first or exclusively, has diminished their importance overall because it has diminished their audience.
Xbox 1 fans were largely FPS-heads that made fun of Final Fantasy, and for that matter made fun of the Japanese (and shit, probably Democrats) and now 360 fans are supposed to care about JRPGs?
No, the JRPGs were for one thing only: to get market share in Japan. And: fail.

Obviously only xbox1 owners would be interested on the 360 because MS has failed to expand its market. In other news, 120 million ps2 users are only waiting for lair uncharted dmc4 gta4 mgs4 LBP to upgrade and sony world domination is upon us. Meanwhile, ES the first true jrpg for the ps3 has outsold the 360 version LTD in its first week. In Japan, world renowned publisher/developer Square Enix is finishing touches on the genre-defining, milestone title Final Fantasy 13 Final Fantasy Versus 13 for the PlayStation 3 videogame multimedia-experience-hub system.

Well their new fans ain't much in Japan. ES and just about every PS3 JRPG will outsell the 360 counterpart, some by massive quantities. PS3 has no games? It launched a year later...other than that, it's doing just fine.
And polls have suggested that a higher percentage of PS2 fans were going to remain loyal to PS3 than the percentage of XBox or GCN that were planning on buying the new-gen consoles from MS and Nintendo, respectively.
Last time I said that here, two Xbots implied I was making up the stats and I shit on them by posting the articles. It was funny.

It's doing so fine massive trolls like you are proud of being fed one-year-down-the-pipe ports. And whatever polls you found, the truth is ps2 users are upgrading but not to ps3. That's what the real data, the one that matters shows - sales data, which you conveniently kept out of your post. Because hey, if we are trolling with both username and avatar why should we bother about sales information. Of course you could also try like some of your brethren and pretend all wii and 360 users are respectively gamecube and xbox1 owners. Have fun with that.
Let's not despair tho, we can always hype and pimp games without a release date set sometime in the future. What's the flavor of the month in-development title these days? Heavy Rain? God of War 3? I hear GT5 doesn't cut it anymore, it's been stretched ever since the ps3 released hype wise.

FF series, Pokemon and Dragons Quest are the three main JRPG series. Any other JRPG series is irrelevant.
JRPG would be important if FFXIII is still exclusive to PS3. Since this is no longer the case, JPRG is thereby declare by all PS3 fanboys to no longer be important.
For those complaining about Microsoft "moneyhat" JRPG, well if it's not for that we probably still wouldn't have seen any JRPG at all on HD console. If Sony want to, they could also "moneyhat" JRPG (like they did with Rogue Galaxy) but they didn't because this generation they want to focus on "shooter" games.
Dragon Quest IX, Final Fantasy XIII, and Pokemond Pearl/Diamond/Platium are certainly important.
The Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Pokemon franchises will always be important to the Japanese, until the Xbox 360 recieves a Japanese release date for Final Fantasy XIII and a Dragon Quest title. The 360 will contiune to sink below the PS3.
The only thing the Xbox 360 provided this generation was a wealth of new JRPG's that we never heard of. They manage to get some JRPG's to jump aboard the 360 to have a nice selection to choose from. Whether they liked them or not, is up to the Japanese themselves.
Like I said Dragon Quest will help the DS, Final Fantasy XIII will help the PS3 and Pokemon will help the DS. Other JRPG's are just here to help feel the void.
Tales of Vesperia in my opinion seems to be overrated, Infinite Undiscovery bombed here in America and it did a somewhat spectacular increase in hardware sales in Japan.
We haven't seem the true JRPG's yet. JRPG's are suppose to increase hardware sales. So they can get those users or fans on their consoles.

An unfortunate side effect. I do play and enjoy the filler, btw, I'm not saying I skip all other games, lol, I just am like a bear in hibernation until my super games come out and then I play them like a super sayajin. You know what I mean?
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
